Angle of FFG for sharpening
Angle of FFG for sharpening
When sharpening on an Edge Pro if I want exactly 30 degrees I can't just do that on a full flat grind due to the FFG not representing the centerline. Does anyone care about this? if so how do you measure the ffg angle and do your set-up?
Re: Angle of FFG for sharpening
I'm a little confused. How is the ffg not the centerline? The angle on your edgepro should be the correct one. I use an angle cube with my WE and the bevel comes out even

Pretty sure he is talking about not being able to have a flat other then the blade to rest on the Edge Pro.
Are you trying to change the bevel or go with the factory grind or something there abouts?

People account for it in different ways :cckw wrote:Does anyone care about this? if so how do you measure the ffg angle and do your set-up?
-just approximate it, as it is similar for a lot of knives
-calculate it using trig
-measure it with angle finders (iphone has an app for it)

What FFG Spydie do you have? Does it not have any flat near the handle at all?
If it does you could set up the Edge Pro with the flat on the platform, grind one flat spot then just adjust the Edge Pro to your one ground flat spot using the sharpie trick.
Now that you are completely confused just check out this video by Jim Ankerson.

Wow the angle finder app for Iphone is probably what I want. Although I have downloaded about 2 apps ever, I'm sure I can manage another... I had been doing the method mentioned about using the flat spot right in front of the handle, but that takes a bit to set up time, and some knives don't have enough of that.

1 in 60 rule. Measure the blade height and blade width (in mm would probably be most accurate). Then, blade width/(blade height/60) = degrees of declination, within a gnat's heinie. Adjust accordingly.
It's 5am, so someone correct me if I went wrong on any of that, but I'm pretty sure it's right.

A sharp knife is a pleasure to carry. Five or six sharp knives are an even greater pleasure.

If your phone is updated, go to the compass and swipe left. Angle finder is included.cckw wrote:Wow the angle finder app for Iphone is probably what I want.
