White Japanese boxes

#1

Post by Lumtantofan »

I have noticed quite a few Bob Lum Tanto folders in ATS-55 being posted on Ebay with "white Japanese boxes". The writing on the back is in Japanese and it looks different from the regular boxes. Any ideas? Seems strange that they are all of a sudden popping up and the boxes seem to have no wear at all.

Spyderco's Japanese makers sometimes make knives for the "home market". Some of these are identical to the versions they make for Spyderco, some are not, but if the writing on the box is in Japanese, then the knife inside was intended for the Japanese market. If they are being sold by US ebay sellers, they were "self imported". Not common, but not all that unusual either.

Like this one? This is from my Japanese edition ATR. Not sure why there are suddenly a bunch on eBay. Maybe someone took a trip to Japan and found a Spydie honey hole?

Yes and Yes. Both very valid posts! We need a sprint and the box pictures leave me wanting more.

My Meerkat (Reverse S PE) came in a white box very similar to the one noted above (with Japanese characters, etc). I purchased it directly from Hamonoichba's website several years ago.

That box is so cool.

I wish they'd bring it back.

At the moment I don't keep any boxes, but I would keep that one.
