Re: White House Intruder had a Spyderco
I've met and worked with a handful of Secret Service guys. Keep in mind, these are the 90% of the USSS that deal in counterfeit money, not the elite 10% (whether through skill, seniority, or patronage) that get to work the Presidential Security Detail. They have all been stand up guys.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet the issue is a not so much one of USSS incompetence, but a two-pronged undermining: Budgetary and resources on one prong, and a lack of respect/compliance from WH occupants/staff on the other. You wouldn't see GWB pulling a Clinton-esque brushing off of their security protocols, but I can sure imagine the current administration doing so.

I would love to hear coverage on everything else he was carrying.
It seems like they're trying to make him seem like a bad guy by only reporting something that they can use to make him look dangerous.
The important thing in my opinion is that they are reporting he wasn't of sound mind.

I am pretty sure if they put many of us under the microscope, we would not fit their "of sound mind" label. Especially if they saw our Spyderco collections.Donut wrote:The important thing in my opinion is that they are reporting he wasn't of sound mind.

A pocketed Spydie caused its owner to trespass the White House?

I saw that they modified the description of the knife this morning - the Secret Service is now saying that the Spyderco knife had a 2.5" blade... Certainly no "weapon of mass destruction"...
Assuming the description is accurate... this narrows the number of potential models down significantly... But there aren't a lot of recent vintage serrated 2.5" bladed models...

Here is one good news link on this story which mentions the make of the knife - http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/09 ... te-in-car/" target="_blank
And it would be a common follow on question given the circumstances. Could have easily been a Benchmade or Buck.
Interesting the report offers in late August he was found lurking about the perimeter fence and found with a hatchet.
And his previous run-ins ... to include the sawed off shotgun.
