Traveling to England....need help.

#1

Post by Tom Puderbaugh »

Hi gang,

My wife and I are going to Great Britain next week on vacation. I know I can't carry my usual concealed pistol like I do in my home State of Florida. But what about folding knives or pepper spray?

I have both an Endura and a Delica to choose from. I know either one would have to be placed in my checked baggage, but once I'm off the plane, anyone know how the British lawmen feel about people with pocket knives?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Tom

Firstly, leave the pepper spray at home with your pistol <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The knifelaws in the UK are vague /discretionary (take you pick of adjectives LOL). Basically, if a Policeman thinks what you are carrying looks offensive then it will be confiscated and/or you'll be charged.

To be safe - carry a sub 3inch non-locking folder. And to be double safe, carry it in your bag rather than on your person.

Much depends on where you are going. For example a Delica on a country hike probably won't arouse much suspicion - but it may be a different matter in a city.

Swiss Army Knives are good, and don't seem to bother anyone.

The UK is pretty safe anyway, so take care and have fun in the UK.

Tom -

I'd go with the Delica <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Discretion being the better

part of valor, just keep it

"undercover" as "The Cool"

eloquently put it. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Like The Cool said, the Pepper Spray is a definate "No No". To play safe I would go with the Delica over the Endura unless you're going to do some country hiking.

One good thing, being a tourist even the most bloody minded Policeman probably wont give you too much grief.

BTW
If you are planning any country hiking I can thoughrly recommend the moors of Cornwall and South Devon, gorgious scenery, but make sure you have a compass and a map, the weather can come in hard and fast this time of year.
But where ever you go have a great time.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

The Delica shouldn't be a problem. Especially if you wear a tie and a camera hanging on your beer belly in order to state that you truly are a tourist <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hi,

be carefull in the UK. I had quite a serious problem I handed a No. 4 Opinel I was carrying in my pocket to a bobby. I don't know about the countryside, but in London, they really take it serious.
Regardless of your opinion about Don Rearic, you should have a look at this http://www.donrearic.com/defendingyours ... itain.html . Be assured, in London, they mean it.
