New Glow in the Dark Delica compared to Actual Delica

The new Glow in the Dark Delica Knife Kit has now hit the market. To show the size difference I shot a few photos with a Super-Blue Delica for reference. Assembling the kit is very easy. I used a small knife blade to trim the excess plastic from where the sprue attaches as you would on any model kit. The excess is minimal and the plastic detail is of very high quality. From the side the dimensions to a real Delica are very similar. Because of the nature of the plastic scales without any metal reinforcement the scales are thicker as is the blade, spacer, and lock spring. The regular Delica 4 is aprox 1 cm thick while the plastic Delica is 1.5 cm thick. The plastic blade is twice as thick so the flat-grind of the plastic blade narrows down to the same width of the regular Delica blade at it's thickest. Edge retention...not so good, it is plastic after all. Overall, the feel of the knife is pretty close to the real thing with very a smooth action and positive lock feel. As far as using the scales on a regular scales, it would probably not be feasible. The outward appearance is similar, but the inside of the scales are very different. While this would be a great project for kids, I think a lot of collectors will want one to put in their display case and it does have a very nice glow in the dark effect.. I will probably get a few more as I want to leave one un-assembled as it makes an interesting conversation piece. It also comes with a business-size card molded out of plastic which looks great in a display. Enjoy.

Bought my boys the wooden kits for Xmas, and the lock broke almost immediately. Hopefully this is better.

I have been playing with this one all morning as I work on the computer. It is far easier to get consistent quality with plastic than wood. So far it feels great.
