new Southard!!!

#1

Post by Drew78 »

Hi everyone. I'm mostly a lurker but wanted to share my excitement over my recent acquisition. A black Southard.

This is by far my favorite Spydie and I have many. F/f are superb and everything is centered and tight.

One question, I would say that out of the box the leading edge of the Ti lock bar is at about 50-60% into the engagement surface on the blade. It does not appear to be moving much. Is this normal? The lock is solid in all directions.

Thanks

Drew

Congrats on the Southard! Mine is also a favorite. I think the lock engagement is probably normal. Mine is the same way.

50-60% many would consider ideal, so long as there's no blade play. Early lockup has greater chance of failure, even if it has more 'life' in the lock let. A properly carbidized lockface should last as long as you'd need it to. I wouldn't worry.
