This is great news! I've wanted to get my hands on an ATR for a long time. I wonder if an all black version has been discussed? I'm good either way!

I'll take that as a no to the revisit question :D .

Might have been a little late to start the conversation ;) .

gbelleh wrote:One change I could imagine is, rather than having almost the entire length of the clip contact the scale, maybe it could be altered so the contact point is only toward the end of the clip.
I had a similar thought, something like this-Image

Although I'm not an anti wire clip guy, I just don't think its right for this knife.

Of course there are now lots of new questions-
Golden, Seki City, or ??
Ti, SS, Black SS or ??
PE, SE, CE?
S30V, VG-10, or wow the options!

Thanks for the discussion folks,
R7

This is great news Sal. I am very excited with anticipation. I know Liquid Cobra is turning cart-wheels as I type this. Any more details Sal? SE, PE, Ti, PVD coated all hints are appreciated.

This idea seems subtle yet effective and doesn't alter the spirit of the original!

That clip looks okay. Where you usually run into problems with clip breakage is when the clip is skelotonized right where all the stress is. I have seen two high dollar Japanese made knives with broken clips because of that. Just so long as its mounted for tip up carry because that's the main. thing of all for me.

Sal,
Should a pre-production prototype of the modified clip become available, I would be happy to give it a test drive around the block on my ATR :D .

Here is a photo of a prototype pocket clip from a prototype C69 Lil' Temperance that Sal gave me years ago. Considering the significance of this original clip, I removed it for safe keeping and replacing it with a production clip for future carry after writing my review 12 years ago.

Brian, thanks for the fine photo (I need to build a light box) of the proto clip for the Lil' Temp! The review was a fun read too.

Its interesting looking at the Lil' Temp clip in that the ramp angle/radii seem more gradual than the ATR clip allowing for less contact area to the scale.

There are many discussions on the ATR clip here and other places that prompted me to start the discussion not knowing that a sprint was already planned. I certainly hope I didn't gum up the works by bringing this topic up.

You're welcome to it. :)

As for that mod, I'm no engineer, but it seems to me that the [ cross section of the original ATR clip compensates for the potential weakness created by the large holes, most especially the one closest to the attachment point. Wouldn't removing that channel leave just two relatively narrow and easily bent flat strips?

I believe you are absolutely correct Paul. The integrity of the clip must be retained to prevent bending/breaking. And the holes must stay for finger indexing. I wonder if the gradual ramp on the Lil' Temperance clip would be a valid solution.

Thanks for you observation,

Ian

It would still provide some strength to have the rolled corners Paul. Perhaps the length of the returns could be cut in half for the upper half of the clip to remove contact with the scale, yet still maintain strength.

I would think even just a minor amount taken off would help tremendously.
Sal if you need someone else to test a clip, send one my way. I'll put on mine and give it a try.
