Spyderco Warranty and Repair knocks off this Canadians socks!

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

I received a Starmate in trade and I was pretty happy with it until I noticed the blade didn't stay shut very well. I considered sending it back to Spyderco for repair but I was concerned about sending it over the border. I also figured there wasn't much they would/could do. It may sound silly but I never for a second expected them to replace it with a brand new one. Well that's exactly what they did. Not only did they send me back a new one without any issues, but they included the money I sent with my knife. Spyderco paid the shipping to get this thing back to me! Who does that???? I've handled probably at least 8 different Starmates in an attempt to find one without the issues that have been discussed online. This one is without most of them and is the best one I've seen in terms of fit and finish. Thanks Spyderco! Pics or it didn't happen right? Clearly I have too much time on my hands lol.

Very nice indeed! That is awesome customer service.

They sent your money back with it because they have no use for Monopoly money. ;)
Time for another :spyder:!

A couple of weeks ago I bought a brand new Schempp Tuff and I did not feel the lockup was satisfactory so for the first time ever I sent a knife off to Spyderco W&R for evaluation. This past Friday I got a surprise package from Golden with a brand new Tuff still sealed in the plastic baggy. Great service & turnaround with no fuss. This is one satisfied customer that will be coming back to Spyderco for a long time coming.

The new Tuff pairs up quite nicely with the new S110V Manix 2 -

So wait, was it because he sent Canadian money? Because that does make sense, seeing the time and trouble it would take them to get $5 converted to USD. At any rate, A+ service Spyderco!

When I called them to ask about sending in the knife they said canadian money was fine. A lot of the time the canadian dollars exchange rate is the same as the American dollar. Sometimes it's valued even higher.

I may get a Starmate. It reminds me of my Vallotton.
Again, congrats on a gorgeous Spyderco.

They sent your money back because it's funny Canadian Monopoly money ;)

I'm pretty sure if the error is on their part such as a warranty issue, they cover all fees except you shipping it to them. If you want sharpening service done, the shipping is on you. They ask that you send shipping money just in case there isn't a warranty issue and the have to send you the original knife back.

I own about 20 spyderco knives and have not had a problem with any of them. Last week I received a Sage 4 that was extremely difficult to operate, it seemed as if there was excessive friction on the blade tang from the lockbar. oil on the pivot and lockbar didn't seem to help. I am confident that spyderco would have made it right but after emailing Charlynn and finding out there is a 4-6 week wait for warranty work I decided to return it to the seller for an exchange. US money is looking more like monopoly money as well.
