First Spyderco. The lockbar. Is it supposed to be flush to liners when open?

Hi all ---

This is my first Spyderco knife, the Native 5. Awesome little folder. I was curious though, on your Spydercos does the lockbar sit flush with the liners in the open position?

If this isn't normal, do you what's causing this or could recommend a fix?

Not a big deal just thought I'd ask. Thanks

That's completely normal and even expected. It should be flush when the knife is closed, because the finishing machine work around the outside is done while the blade is closed. When you open it, the lock bar is designed to have a certain amount of wear built into it, so over time it will get more and more close to being flush as the lock wears into the tang. There's nothing at all wrong with that knife. I have seen some that are closer to being flush, and I've seen some that are way more pronounced than that.

My Ulize is almost perfectly flush when open and closed, but both forum Natives weren't flush when open, neither is my Caly 3, or my Stretch or Ladybugs.

It can vary a little from knife to knife. I have many that are perfectly flush, and others that are just slightly off. But yours seems well within the normal variation to me.

There's quite a bit of variation in lockbacks. Yours looks good to me.

Yep, this looks pretty normal. My Native5 looks exactly the same when open. Welcome aboard!

What variation of the Native 5 is that? I don't remember seeing that color handle before...

Sweet, thanks! I never heard of that one before, but it makes sense as I was trying to figure out why the handles looked almost translucent!
