It is first and foremost a decision based on utility and function. But yes, I find it more aesthetically pleasing too. That "kindergarten scissors" stock tip is...unhandsome. Stronger tip is definitely a plus for some uses, just not for mine. I'm glad they make it the way they do though. Those who want the fat tip can have it, and those who don't can take care of it in 10 minutes with a piece of sandpaper. It's a lot easier to take a little metal off than put it back on.
