The long awaited Tusk is live and will be out next week. Wish I had the funds to jump right away, but in time it will be mine.

Got that email too. I just bought the Mule and scales, and still need to get a sheath. I doubt this one will get sold out and unavailable, but I still find it hard to resist.

Dang, I have been buying a lot of stuff lately (tried out an Emerson, Mule + scales for it and Swick) which means I am quite low on funds for now. Although as nccole said, I doubt this will sell out as quickly as the Southard did, so it should stay in stock long enough for payday to come around.

I just got another email saying my taxes were not right. I went and fixed the problem and my state return went from $31 to $271! That sounds like Tusk money to me!

From what I've heard it's a harder version of H1, Spyderco's rust free blade steel.

TUSK
The Tusk is both a state-of the art mariner’s tool and part of
Spyderco’s history. The original design dates back to the early
days of Spyderco’s beginning with Sal Glesser’s desire to produce
a high performance mariner’s tool. The technology at the time was
not available for the visionary concept. That’s all changed today,
redesigned by Sal’s son Eric Glesser more than 25 years later has
brought to light the original Tusk with new modern twists. Made
from all highly rust resistant materials the Tusk features a blade made
from LC 200 N and full titanium scales including a Reeve Integral
Lock. The 300-series stainless steel marlinspike has round-to-square
cross section to loosen knots efficiently with a high strength Ball
Bearing Lock TM made with a ceramic ball bearing. The marlinspike
includes one small sized shackle key in the marlinspike and another
lager shackle key created when the marlinspike is closed. Both
can effectively manage many different sized and types of shackles.
Reversible Clip carry and lanyard hole give a variety of carry options.
Thankfully, technology caught up with Spyderco’s early vision and the
Tusk’s time is now.

I'm in for two as soon as my favorite retailer gets them in stock ...this will, I think, become a classic. Maybe not a best seller but a classic Spyderco design.

I'd have preferred they kept the name Yachtsman but Tusk works.

That's all about marketing. Even if they don't have a copyright, Victorinox has had a SAK named the yachtsman for years.

It's that oblong slot in the marlinspike and it is used to loosen the pin on a shackle. That's the best way I can describe it.

I'm sure it's functional but that is one ugly looking knife.

I love the look of this knife. I'm a fan of marlinspikes, and this one looks like it was designed with that in mind other than just adding one to a knife. Dual locks, Ti, and a new water-friendly steel, what's not to like? I have been wanting a Ti handled H1 knife for ages, the Tusk will fit that bill. I know I'll get one eventually, but with that pricetag I'll have to save up for this one. I finally got the techno after lusting for it since seeing it as a pre-production prototype. Can't wait to see the pics of them in hand.

Still I am wondering because, based on the specs, it looks like the closed size is comparable to a Delica but the blade shows to be shorter and have less edge than my Techno. I love the Techno, and it is my EDC, but the shortish blade has been less than perfect occasionally. (Mainly cutting food; sandwiches, burgers, and hoagies in particular.)
