The Tatanka: Who's In?

#1

Post by wrdwrght »

Since joining this forum, I've heard whispers, Sal's not least, about something really hefty called the Bison. These tantalizing whispers actually go back to 2004.

It's taken me weeks (doh!) to equate the recently announced Tatanka with the Bison. Others here have been quicker on the uptake.

But it took me just minutes to like the idea of a folder this big (check out Michael Janich's demonstration of its size). Although I'm not drawn to the Military (simply because the liner lock and thinnish point strike me as contrary to hard-use; YMMV), I certainly like my new Manix2 XL.

So, thinking big (even though I prefer the sizes I normally pocket), I'm going for the Tatanka. I want its 4mm of sabered and swedged VG10 (glad it's VG10 and not S30V), its greatly strengthened back lock, even its almost foot of length.

Anyone else crazy enough to find a use for this beastie?

Anyone participating enthusiastically in earlier Bison threads not drawn to what the Bison has become?
-Marc (pocketing an S110V Native5 today)

I'm in. Saw the bison a few yrs ago via these forums. I want to try out the new lock system and my Szabo needs a larger friend.

I'm very interested. If only for the largest Spydie I've yet had a chance to try.

I'll probably pass. I can't decide if it's an interesting knife, or an amusing caricature of a knife. Either way, at 6.5" closed and 9.5 ounces, it's way too big and too heavy for me.

I'm in on this like peanut butter on jelly sandwiches.

I love the blade and handle shape on this knife, nice and utilitarian, hopefully we'll see a 5" Military next.

I'm in! I'm sure it'll be too heavy, and I'll just end up messing with it while watching TV :D

Looks like the a nice knife and I love the lock engineering, but it's far to. If for my liking

More interested in the lock design than the knife. I have no use for a knife that big unless it's ridiculously over built for hard use/abuse.

I'm in as well. The Tatanka and Autonomy are at the TOP of my list for 14.

I'm only interested in the lock. I may pick one up simply to have an early Powerlock model.

I said it once and I'll say it again.... Same knife smaller package and it would be awesome.

My only complaint...I wish that it was more Native like...the size is awesome. Do I need a knife that big, will I carry a knif that big. Probably not...but it is still one to own.

Pretty much my sentiment. For something this big and heavy I would go with a fixed blade...

Same here. Way to big for me unless I would get it just for collection purposes.

Not for me, the Manix XL is about my upper limit for size and even that is a stretch.

Big knives only make me appreciate the Para2 more.
