Techno vs. Quartermaster Murdock

#1

Post by dgebler »

I hope I am not treading on excommunication for requesting a comparison between one of the favorite Spyderco knives in some time to another offering, but here we go. I can't remember the last time I bought something other than a Spydie...(I think it was either the 0561 or SR1-A, not sure) but it's been some time. Anyways, I always peruse the new arrivals at some of the larger web dealers and I have noticed the Quartermaster knives showing up and a couple look pretty interesting (one folding karambit and the Murdock). After looking around a little the company looks legit, but I don't see alot of comments/reviews on their products so I am coming to my most trusted source.

I really like the looks of the techno and I am sure I will have one eventually, but this is not a cheap impulse buy (especially since my first purchase of the month will be and edge pro and probably some upgraded stones). So I noticed the "Murdock" has a similar LBK build and I wondered if any of you own both, or if you have any feedback on the company or quality of the product. You don't have to tell me the techno is far superior, I pretty much assume this is the case, but are there similarities, or any virtues of this little tank. It looks almost as thick as it is tall but I am intrigued. Any comparison photos? Should this be in off topic?

Besides being short, wide, and heavy I don't know how similar the knives would be. I don't own either, nor a Benchmade 755 MPR, but feel it to be a closer competitor to the Techno.

At give/take $76 I don't think any maker has the means to put all those materials together to rival one of the big three.

quatermaster is made by Wayeah knives in China... there is proof if you look.

http://portexaminer.com/trade-data/waye ... a36l64504/ look at the addy

http://www.quartermasterknives.com/contact.html
now look at this addy

https://maps.google.co.nz/maps?q=227+Tu ... tates&z=19

Just like how mantis claims s60v on their knives qtrmstr claims to have CPM154, you are not getting CPM154
you arent getting texas made
now look at all the proprietary hardware and stuff, the materials, and now look at the price point............. now where is about the only place you can offer this stuff so cheap? ;)

The Techno is a truly great EDC knife. Buy one second-hand and scratched if you have to, so that it's affordable/do-able. It will still be a beautiful knife.

A month or two of extra savings to get what you really want always results in a happier buy. Save for the Techno and you'll be glad you did.

You guys ever go into Harbor Freight and see their products with the brand name "Pittsburgh" that are all made in China?
