Which Native Fluted Ti or S110V?

#1

Post by BT-Blades »

I'm definitely going to buy a Native as my next knife. I can pre-order the CF S110V version or get the Fluted Ti version now. The Fluted Ti version is beautiful, but I also don't own any knives in S110V. Very tough decision! I'm trying to get some opinions. What do you guys think?

I am a steel junkie so my bias will be towards the S110V

I have an S110V Forum Native, and I recently got a fluted ti Native. Not being as much of a steel junkie, I would take the fluted ti. The contoured handles are so nice in the hand, not to mention it's beautiful to look at!

Get both, and do a blade swap, I say. Life's short!

I got the forum native, which is a phenomenal knife. The upgraded steel was a bonus, but most of the enjoyment I get comes from the fit and finish, the ergos and the unique forum design. For most uses you probably won't notice the upgraded steel, so for my money I'd go with the beautiful fluted ti version.

I use a Forum model in S110v and as mentioned, the fit and finish on these models is great. I've been looking at the Ti version too but it's hard to tell from pics, but I'm wondering how polished it is.

Do they tend to be pretty shiny or more of a matte finish to them?

The finish of the ti Native is quite shiny. Different from the fluted ti Military's more matte finish.

Tough, but I'll have to go with the S110v. If I did get the sweet fluted Ti version I would give it a S110v bladeswap. Nothing wrong with S35vn, I'm spoiled with Spyderco's steel options so that's just how I roll.

I have two Forum N5's sitting in the safe, untouched since I got them from Spyderco. One, a user in the rotation queue that I haven't come to use yet and a preneed. They are a valued prize in my modest collection.

CF/S110v N5: Two preordered. Looking forward to them. Will jump straight to my pocket to be used.

What steel will the fluted CF have? You know, the one they had a proto of last year... K390? :D

I would never do a blade swap to put S110V on my Ti Fluted N5. IMHO it is purely gents knife and S35VN is absolutely sufficient for the tasks, which you can face during normal use of the gent knife. Also a blade swap on midlock can be a little tricky

I see a conflict between pics & descriptions of the CF S110V coming out as in the descriptions on many sites say it has a Boye dent, but none of the proto pics show this? I am guessing since the others don't have the dent, neither will these?
