Hey Paul, some guy here got robbed answering the door. He had $60,000 cash and $90,000 of casino chips on his kitchen table.

Okay, he's a moron, but still... You gotta be careful.

No worries, Ken. Unless it was the pizza guy himself sticking me up. One of the "benefits" of living alone and not knowing a lot of folks locally is that you don't get in the habit of automatically opening the door when the bell rings. Mine doesn't get unlocked unless I know the person at the door, or can identify them in some way. If I see a USPS, UPS, or Fedex truck, or that of someone who has an appointment, I'll open up. Otherwise, I just ask them to state their name and business via the intercom. And yes, that guy was an idiot.

I work from home, so many days I stay in my pajama pants. Even so, I always have a 9mm pistol, a Spyderco, and a flashlight on me, all the time, even in the house in pajamas.

To answer the question, for pizza delivery, 2 knives. For Chinese, 1. For pest control, 3. For the plumber, 4. UPS, 5. Mailman, 1.

I guess the pizza guy in my area is not very scary. I don't feel compelled to carry a knife when I encounter him. Now for cutting that pizza later, I would say my Military would be first choice.

I usually answer the door with a cleaver or machete in my hand and a werewolf mask on. I probably would have my southard in my pocket though.

If I know someone who I've never met (i.e., pizza guy or gal) is coming to my door mid to late evening (I like my weekend pizza later in the evening), I'm greeting them in jeans, sneakers, and packing :spyder: s :) Actually, of the five :spyder: s I mentioned, the only extra one was the P'Kal... the other four :spyder: s are standard EDC rotation. :) Also, I had some non- :spyder: s on me as well to include a 4-D cell MagLite. :)

Anyway, to each his or her own. :)

now I dont know what his outfit consisted of but I remember reading threads involving up to 17 concealed weapons on him at a time... he might have had one on his keychain also... you just gotta get creative.

Im obviously not trying to say its necessary to do so or that theres ever a need, but that is up to the individual I guess.

Ah just saw that Chuck has provided excellent evidence of my comment already, thanks!

This is a hilarious thread, I love it. Only among hardcore afi's could this conversation even occur, or be appreciated.

The last time I ordered pizza delivered was 5-10 years ago. I've delivered any more pizzas when age 20 than I'll ever have delivered to me.

If in my house sweats when a pizza arrived at the door, I'd only have one (!) Spyderco on me, my waved FFG Endura. It is my go-to pajama knife, thin, light, and a fabulous cutter.

I've been watching this thread closely; it's relevant to me because I deliver pizza! I'll take the reverse perspective. What's that strange man carrying when he rings your doorbell? :)

Honestly, I rarely have anything on me other than a ladybug in the change pocket. I'd prefer to have something large clipped to my pocket, but I have good reasons to keep it so small.

The first reason is the social response: people invite me into their homes and I really don't want them seeing a knife in my pocket.

Secondly I reach in that right pocket twenty times a day to change cash and the stainless ladybug (thangs IG-88) is the thinnest and least noticeable knife I've ever seen, I can brush right past it and it doesn't get in the way.

By the way I used the stainless ladybug to cut through a deep dish pizza the other day, so anything can come in handy in skilled hands. ;)

Good to know you guys are ready for anything at the door, just know I am too. :D

How are you carrying the 9mm in PJ pants?

You just need something like a Caly 3/3.5 clipped in wasteband. They're thin and carry discreetly with the wire clip.

I don't think people are necessarily paranoid about the pizza delivery person so much as their being aware that when the pizza guy (or gal) arrives their door is now unlocked and open to the potentially cruel world outside. The pizza guy is most likely welcome. the goblins and malefactors that are potentially lurking in the shadows behind him are not.

Many years ago U.S. President Herbert Hoover said; “A good many things go around in the dark besides Santa Claus.” Some people believe that is still true today.

Probably in the hand, like I do. I just hold it behind my back when opening doors to strangers. :)

Thanks to the Rohrbaugh R9, it's easy. A 6+1 9mm that just slips into a PJ pocket, no problem.

When even the R9 is too big, there's .380 if things need to be even more discreet.
