I've been reading forum comments for about 3 months now. I purchased my first knife "ever" just before x-mas. Paramilitary 2 digi cameo. I just loved the look of it.
Any way I have three small cuts on my fingers. Nothing to get worried about. It came about from opening and closing my knife. It opens and closes really hard. Tried nano oil and loosening screws. Finally sent it back to Spyderdo to take a look. Waiting for its return.
Has anyone got a small cut? Or maybe it is an event we want to hide.
I did no see any mentions about this. Off course maybe it is just me not being careful to keep my fingers where they don't belong.

Forget a small cut, I have sliced open my hands more times than I care to count. You'll definitely learn how to handle your knives to avoid cuts, but some of us are still a little clumsy

No way are all knife users careful. On BladeForums I've read scores of self-injury tales. Even Sal Glesser admits to cutting himself frequently by accident. It is very common. I've cut myself despite being careful and avoiding both alcohol and knifesturbation.

I've gotten the odd nick here or there over time. I recently got the Karahawk for Christmas. I immediately went to work on it with the sharpmaker. I really surprised myself with the sharpening job I managed to pull off. I got it much sharper than I received it from the factory. I was being a moron and was flipping it around and tried some more complex manoeuvres and managed to stab the top of my wrist. It was a wide deep cut so off I went to the hospital. I was and still am pretty embarrassed. The worst part is is that I did it again a few days later. So I've finally gotten the hint to stop messing around with it. But hey, a knife is never really yours until it bites you.

Sal, can we get a trainer? I love this thing and it's just too tempting not to give it a swing every once in a while.

Hahaha knifesturbation. Thats a great term.

It's not truly yours until it has drawn blood.

No one minds a couple of little "love bites" from their favorite knife.

I have only ever cut myself once with one of my knives, but I learned a big lesson from that about respecting them. I'm a musician and need to look after my hands so I suppose I have more reason to be careful than the average person.

Glad you were careful...eating knife users is dangerous business!! :D

I used to get nasty cuts while i was younger, nowadays i still often get little nicks during sharpening and using ''too sharp'' knives... I also use a straight razor and sometime a knife for shaving so yeah i get nicks quite regularly.

However the nasty bloody cuts like beheading the flesh on the tip of my thumb which happened three times are a thing of the past. A week ago i stuck the needle tip of my freshly reprofiled and convexed Timillie in the side of my index finger while dicing an onion... I somehow had a lifting move while doing this so the flesh looks bumpy and not cut cleanly. but more ripped up by the spine.

I often shave my chest, shoulder and upper back using a Spydie for the rough work prior to use a cartridge crap, again its not rare i nick my shoulders, oh well i guess i'm not THAT careful when it comes to knives lol.

I swing my knives around all the time and I haven't been cut for at least 3 months guess I'm just lucky :p

I believe that it's supposed to be a self-defense tool, not a self-offense one! :)

You learn as you go. Sometimes I get nicks - sometimes cuts.

It'd be nice if we were able to edit titles.

Sorry to laugh, but a friend of mine bought his very first knife and like you it was a PM2 in digi. You guessed it, the first thing he did was to stab himself in the finger. Ouch! :eek:

Anyway, your knife should open and close so smoothly you can hardly believe it. That particular knife is really good. Spyderco will make it right.

It's really not even about being careful, it's about experience. At some point you just know your way around a particular knife, you know what to expect from it, and you know when to keep your fingers out of the way. Some knives are going to have a very strong bias to stay shut, especially back lock knives, and once they reach that certain point during closing, they sprint shut with authority so you just have to keep your fingers out of the way. Your Para 2 doesn't really have the same action as a lock back, but once you press that lock button, the blade is going to fly shut by gravity most of the time, so you need to have all your fingers on the sides of the handle and not in the way of the blade. You'll get it eventually, at some point you just get sick of getting cut lol.

Considering the amount of time I spend using a knife without getting cut and comparing it to how often I do get cut, I'd say I'm pretty careful. That doesn't mean I've never needed stitches, and after one long evening of food preparation I counted seven small nicks on my left index finger. I have a lot more scars from other things than I have from knives.

I learned to respect knives at an early age, after slicing my finger down to the bone with a pocket knife when I was about 10. That was a nasty cut, and something I'll never forget. I do handle many knives every day, but I don't play with them, spinning and flipping them around, etc. No balisongs for me either. As a result, I can count the number of times I've nicked myself in the last 5 years on one hand. The worst was from the sharp point at the rear of the Leaf Storm. After getting used to using choils, that Leaf Storm's sharp point was right where my finger wanted to be! The Gayle Bradley got me once too when my finger slipped while trying to close the blade, but not bad.

If it's true that you don't really own a knife until it bites you, then I only own a couple knives! :eek:

I've never been cut by a pocket knife but also open/close them very cautiously. I doubt this is common though and my time is certainly coming. :p

When dealing with a very sharp edge it always pays to be conscious of the fact. You could cut quite deep with surprisingly little force :eek:

If you're around sharp knives a lot you will get some minor nicks, it's the big OOP's that I guard against :eek:
