Closed Calypso Jr.
I guess most of the regulars here know by now that I'm a big fan of the dear departed Calypso Jr. One reason I like it so much is because of the way it looks when it's closed. It just looks right. Like a '59 T-bird or something like that. Anyone know what I mean?

transistor,
I couldn't agree more! Particularly my micarta plain edge Calypso Jr. It is just beautiful when closed, and pretty gorgeous when open as well. Awhile back I accidentally scratched the blade up and so to repair this I used emery cloth finishing at 2000 grit and managed to achieve a mirror polish on the blade. It now looks classier than ever.
But yes, when closed these particular knives just look "right". Here's mine, see image 1 below...

Ron, I love flat ground vg-10 also. These blades are easy to get extrememly sharp, it's easy to maintain the edge, and it can be done without thinning the blade out and sacrificing strength. They hold an edge well also. I've found that regular hits on the strop is all I need to keep the edge in good shape, which means a lot less wear from stones and translates to long blade life. Let us know how you like your new knives when they come in.
Jeff, I'm looking forward to your pics when you get them to post.

been enjoying mine for the last year now...
I agree, it just looks... right.
got bored last night, spent about 45minutes trying to make a convex on the VG-10, and it's a LOT slower than ATS-55. Just going to end up making 4-5 different angles and smoothing it out after.
The choil and spine both flow into the handle.
