Forced Patina on Super Blue blade ???

I normally do all my cv, 1095, 01 blades using white vinegar.. I notice that my Caly3 is starting to patina and was wondering if the vinegar was too harsh.. Want to force the patina because it usually comes out more uniform than letting it do naturally.. Anyone?? Thanks.. John

I can't imagine why vinegar would be too harsh. Super Blue does stain very fast. I say try 10 or 20 minutes with the vinegar and see where it takes you.

I believe 20 minutes of apple cider vinegar gave me a pretty dark patina.

O1, 1095 and Superblue have similar corrosion properties. If that is your normal path I would go right ahead :) .

I did 5 hrs in the vinegar.. Came out sweet.. Nice and dark.. Then polished the edge!! Sorry no pics.. Aint figured out the wifes new camera yet.. Thanks guys!! :) John

vinegar is my favourite thing to use for patinas. superblue will have a nice stain after 15 minutes from my experience. Which is quite fast, for M4 i had to soak it 3 times for half hour each time. and D2 i left the blade in the vinegar for 2 days before it darkened :D

I have done as little as 2 hr and as much as 24 hrs.. 2 days!! WOW!! Never have tried D2 though.. John
