friction folder and the new PITS knife

#1

Post by spyder moist »

From reading around the knife forums, i'm under the impression That the friction folder has been delayed/postponed. Its a shame as it was a nice design.
But patience is a virtue, and I am happy to wait until spyderco believe it to be 100% to their standard.

The slip pouch that was going to be supplied with this knife would this be available to buy as a extra or was it not made due to the knife not beign put into production?. I only ask this as the new upcoming spydero PITS knife looks to be around the same size as the friction folder.

And have seen a lot of images of the original PITS beign carried in a pouch.

Also are there any specs available for the upcoming PITS. Eg blade length, cutting edge and closed knife size.

Many thanks spyder moist

I'm guessing that you don't like pocket clips on a knife period then?

No pocket clips for me,
they get removed on all my knives. For a few reasons.
I carry all my knives in a coat pocket or trouser/short pockets that have zips.
I don't want to display any part of my knife in public, even a cute little squeak. I prefer the out of sight out of mind carry method.
And TBH I don't like feeling the clip in my hand when the knife is in use.

I can't wait for the PITS stunning design and looks great now its "spyderised"

What's youre take on pocket clips mate?

Hi Spyder Moist,

The friction folder kind of fell by the wayside when the knife maker and the handle maker had a disagreement. We ended up dropping the project to stop friction. We have another knife of Filleep's that we will be doing instead. Unfortunately for you in London, it's Walker Linerlock and not legal to carry.

On the Mike Read folder; blade is just under 3", cutting edge about 2-3/4", handle about 4-1/8". This one should be legal in the UK to carry.

That's a bummer. The Friction Folder was a fine looking knife.

Thank you for the reply.
It is a shame about the FF, but sounds like the decision to pull it from production is for the best.
The specs on the PITS sound perfect. This is going to be my first pre-order knife.
Many thanks

I can't disagree with any of that, it is the most sensible approach.

I like them because they keep the knife exactly in place whilst in pocket and makes it easy to retrieve.

Sal has a dry wit, so sharp you could almost cut things with it.

It is a pity the knife could not go into production, but the liner lock and frame lock folders that Filip designs and makes are great too.

I'm looking forward to see the finished production knife.
