Full Super Blue or Sandwich Super Blue ?

Full Super Blue or Sandwich Super Blue ?

I have to decide between full super blue and "sandwiched" super blue for edc.Which one do you prefere and why ?

I would think a 'sandwiched' super blue would give you better corrosion resistance. If that's an issue where you are.

I prefer the full superblue to the sandwiched because
A.) I like the patina and enjoy it's character. If I could get a knife with machines superblue handle slabs.... I WOULD! :D
B.) I tend to scratch the crap out of 420J slabs on the laminated blades. This is ok for corrosion resistance, but in my use I could do without.

I prefer the laminated.

* Cheaper to buy (FRN vs G10)
* Easier to reprofile long down the road
* Probably tougher
* Less corrosion concerning.

The 420j2 slabs will scuff up if you really like to use your knives. That said, so does H1.

I really wish they were using full super blue for the upcoming stretch sprint, not as much from a performance standpoint as much as I love the patina this develops.

I love the patina, but I cut with the edge ... and that's the same. With a clad blade, you won't have to worry about corrosion in the pivot. Kinda cancels out. I'd use the one that fits in my hand best.

I feel this way about all of the 2013 Superblues. Delica, Endura, Stretch, Dragonfly, Ladybug, JESTER (wishful) if all these had been solid I would have purchased one or more of each.

i prefer full SB, love the patina it forms and i have had no problems with rust

I have the SB Endura, and love the blade. I would of preferred it in pure SB though....

I'm about 50/50...

I like the patina on the full SB Caly 3.

I also like the fact that I worry less about corrosion at the pivot of the SB Delica.

I wouldn't mind the laminated Super Blue if Spyderco would use a harder steel. 420j1 is way to soft, It scratches just by looking at it.
I prefer all Super Blue. Besides, I love the patina look.

wonder how much steel you would have to remove to unsandwich the SB.... i plan to regrind my stretch whenever i get it

That can be measured. Even estimated easily on a FFG. But I haven't seen any pictures of the sandwich with a patina on the SB part ...

Some measurements from Donut could help. His delica has patina all around the spine so a thickness can be measured and triangulated to determine the amount that needs to be removed.

I like them both.

I'll see what I can do, but I don't have any precise measuring equipment. Is the Endura or the Delica closer in blade thickness to the Stretch? (I think the thickness of the Super Blue layer is different in these two models.

Here is a picture I took of my Endura. Actually, my Delica doesn't have much of a Patina to it.

I dont see the point of laminating it when 1/4 of the blade which is the exposed SB is going to patina or look different anyway.

It's en vogue in Japanese Chef kitchen knives, plenty of their high end stuff is laminated ZDP and other steels. I can do without it on folders TBH. Thank goodness my 3.5 SB's are non laminated. My Endura SB/3.5 ZDP on the other hand though, they're in the safe for the collection but I've seen pics of them patina'd and frankly it looks retarded. The 420J is all scratched up all shiny while the 1/4 exposed SB looks totally different being a carbon steel. Gonna have to treat it with Flitz and Ballistol to keep it looking sane.
