How to Save the Military

#1

Post by MountainManJim »

I picked a used CTS-XHP Military with a broken tip last year. I recently got around to regrinding the blade to correct the tip and to bring the overall length to 3.5 in.

I really like the results. The new grind created a knife with an extra stout blade with more of a leaf shape. Still has the great oversized Military handle. And, now I can stuff one of favorite knives in by back pocket and carry it around Colorado legally. Plus, I think the brown G10 and silver clip look great.

Here are some pics:

Nice work, MMJ!

It looks more like an Endura than a Military now, though. But, with that Millie handle, you've got yourself a great everyday work knife. Especially with that CTS-XHP steel!

Cheers, mate!

Very nice work Jim. I always enjoy rescuing a beat up Spydie.

Good job, it looks like it was broke about 1/4" to 3/8" back the Military's tip is not that thin what we're they doing to break it that far back. Just kind of curious because my Domino has the same blade steel and a thinner tip and I just wanted to know how hard they had to try to break the tip.

Great save! I love the military's handle and what a bonus that makes it legal carry, should become a model.

Per-Sev: Sorry I don't have a before picture. The tip was broken at about a 1/4 in. I ground it back by a 1/2 in. to make it legal.

I would have gone for more of a reverse tanto myself, but that is certainly a nice reprofile.

Very nice work MMJ! Looks like an Endura on steroids, or one that's been through Military boot camp!

Nice save. The drop before the point reminds me of an Endura.

Great work. Call me crazy, but that seems to move the blade/handle ratio closer to the Paramilitary 2... Either way, it's a keeper!

Sayyy, anyone have a broken-tip Spydie they want to donate? I promise I'll post pics when done. ;)
