In Remembrance Of 9/11...

#1

Post by Water Bug »

Ladies and gentlemen, it is that time of year...

Time to remember those who lost and gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

I've pulled out Spyderco World Trade Center Knife #1044 and it is with me as I type. I will EDC it this week in remembrance of 9/11.

And, as always, please remember our military men and women on the front lines in foreign lands, and the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical service responders, search and rescuers, and airline flight crews here in the United States of America.

NEVER FORGET!!!

Can someone give me a little history on the WTC model? How was it released?

WTC #1504 is in my pocket today, as it has been on this day every year since I got it.

Simplest thing would be for you to download the 2004 Dealer Catalog from spydiewiki. Page 1 has the story of it.

Wow, so everyone carrying the WTC knife today is actually carrying a part of one of the towers with them.

I'm not sure how many were made, there's a picture of #2507 on Spydiewiki.

They made 2,819. IIRC, not all of them sold and, not wanting to discount them to sell the remainder, the ones that didn't sell were destroyed. I may be remembering incorrectly though.

This is from the regular D'Allara knife:
"New York City Police Officer John D'Allara entered but never exited World Trade Center Building One on September 11, 2001. Officer D'Allara was a life-long Spyderco collector who owned nearly every model we've made. In his commemoration and remembrance Spyderco offers the C82BK2 D'Allara Drop Point Folder."

I wish I had found Spyderco's soon enough to get some of these models. Such a great tribute.

NEVER FORGET!

I remember watching the tv and turned it on CNN and saw the one plane flying into the tower and thought what movie is this then I realized this was really happening and from then on I just starred at the tv in disbelief. It was a horrible day and we lost a lot of good people but terrorism will not stop us we will endure and not forget all the people who had there lives cut short by some cowards that the only thing they accomplished was to make us stronger.

I completely didn't notice the number on the one in your picture. I was just referencing the number as to how many must have been produced.

The only things that are certain are as follows. Spyderco intended to produce 2819 of the WTC Knives. Less than that number were sold. Some were dismantled. The numbers were not assigned sequentially, some numbers were specifically requested by people for whom they had significance.

Beyond that, it is unknown whether all 2819 were actually produced and I'm fairly certain that only Spyderco knows how many left Golden.
