That Herbst is such a nice design. Hope to see it "sprinted" soon.
Re: I'll see your Spyderco and raise you another!
That Herbst is indeed a sweet raise, but I do prefer the original to a sprint run.... ah one day it will be mine :D
No vent, no Boye dent, square scales, what a sweet old Mariner! A nice historical addition to the list :)

I wonder what happened in Austrialia ... What one can see, is the miraculous multiplication of Spydies :p

A fellow Aussie collector and a member here; is down sizing his collection.Peter1960 wrote:I wonder what happened in Austrialia ... What one can see, is the miraculous multiplication of Spydies :p
And being the kind, generous gentleman and though I never met him, I am sure very handsome man that he is, has taken pity on my poor collection. He has sold me at bargain prices some the Spydies I have always wanted.
:D So my collection has grown.
18 hour rule.
But I am running out again.
Re: I'll see your Spyderco and raise you another!
This might be the first time I've been able to play in this thread... But I can't find my Byrdharp... Boo hoo.

Once again, I have run out items to raise with.
I am have some variations on knives already listed, but I will have to go through the collection to check.
So last one for a while; the knife that almost stopped me collecting Spyderco knives before I had even started. I had a Endura clipit SE for about 8years, the brand name didn’t mean much to me back then. I found this Byrd on eBay; when I handled it I thought it was to heavy, to slippery and didn’t like it much at all. It when back into the packaging and has been there ever since.
Not until a mate let my play with his Endura 2, did I start to appreciate the Spyderco designs. Then there were the photos from OZspyder and Mr Blonde; :D the rest of the story is pretty obvious.

Looking back and handling this knife now have the Byrd knives changed in your eyes? The price point and quality, when looking at fit and finish is very high. I do agree that Stainless scales while really attractive are heavy and can be slick.

It strange; all those years of it sitting in the back of the cupboard seem to have improved the feel of the knife greatly.Qcrazy wrote:Looking back and handling this knife now have the Byrd knives changed in your eyes? My hands have become accustom to feel of the Spyderco designs. I still wouldn’t EDC it, for the same reasons as before. But even back then I never doubted that it would be a strong and durable knife, but didn’t feel right.
:) But; yes it would work for me these days.
