Wow! Can't really tell from my phone...is that Red Pearl Kirinite?

Beautiful. ..nice work!

James
Yep Red pearl Kirinite and thank you for the compliment! I'm really liking how easy it is to work and not that expensive.
Where are you getting the stock from? I may have to pick your brain sometime on your process for finishing! My wife wants to make pinecone scales also. ..for a couple knife blanks we have!

That's the best I've seen besides some of Bark Rivers options! You did an amazing job!

James

Is that last one a native with compression lock? Nice!
That's the 'Native Family' from left to right, Shaman, Never Summer Exclusive LC200N Native, and Compression Lock Lil' Native. Been carrying the Shaman in my right pocket, native in my left, lil native in the shirt pocket. :D

I like the compression lock on the little one but the wire clip is even better.

Heathen! You wouldn't leave home without clothes either right! Joking aside, I've actually drove back home once or twice if I noticed I forgot my knife. Gives me a naked feeling after a decennia of daily carrying.

I just overhauled my sage 5 yesterday. Always loved the knife but it's action left much to be desired. Even heard this scraping sound when opening and closing. Free dropping blade was not possible without play. Ended up polishing everything, the washers with a light stroke on a 1000 grit stone, then the internal stop system where the stop pin on the blade travels through. It also occcured to me that the stopping pin on the blade might have imperfections and might even touch the scales so I ground those a bit lower (Taping all of the blade from the pivot to the end of the ricssso). When all was said and done I dropped a few liters of lube on it, put it back together and hope for the best.
Result?
Super smooth action, zero blade play, and believe it or not a free dropping blade.

Really loved this knife but wasn't impressed by the high Taichung fit n finish, except for when holding it already open. Now it's one of my favorite knives.
I don't recommend doing this if you're not familiar with opening and tweaking knives. But I'll be damned if this didn't eliminate all the issues people had with the sage 5.

Loved reading your work to make it better, thanks for sharing that.

Nice pictures but I would swear if I din't own two of them your Sage 5 is at-least a 4 inch blade. Oh now that would be a nice Knife. Imagine a Sage 6 with a cutting surface of 3.75 Inches.
