Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I'm very pleased with the Dragonfly! It's my first, and first V-TOKU2 knife. Maybe because it's new to me...but I find myself grabbing that Dragonfly as my small folder over my Chap LW on a daily basis the past couple weeks since I've got it. You can see from my most recent pic, that the nearly black patina I initially gave it has worn out with daily use but have no hints of rust. It's very easy to get back to shaving sharp as well...which has been difficult for me at times! Strongly considering the Stretch 2 now for a more usuable blade, though this Dragonfly is no slouch for a small blade. I'm really starting to lean towards the non stainless steels lately, never thought I'd say or think that! The Meat man wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 6:09 amTkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 9:34 pmThanks for taking time to give your impression. I was pretty surprised, I'm used to you with your Police or Millie. Funny you say that about the ergos...I recently acquired my first Dragonfly and find myself doing the same thing with the spine. I have a Chaparral as well and do the same thing with that knife as well...though lack of a hump makes it easier, as I'm sure it is with the Caly Jr. Something about these smaller knives though...they just appeal, fit, work :)The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 8:15 pm
I like it a lot, especially for the steel, which I reprofiled to about 10 dps with a 30° microbevel. With that kind of edge/steel combo, achieving extreme sharpness is practically effortless.
The knife design is pretty good ergonomically speaking, except that in use, my thumb usually wants to sit on the spine forward of the hump, and since the spine is swedged, that makes it a bit uncomfortable for prolonged hard use. For normal tasks I don't mind it too much. I really wish though that with such a rust-prone steel, it wasn't a pinned construction, but oh well. I just try to be a little more careful with it than normal. Overall it's a fine knife IMO.
You're right, it is a bit on the small side for me. :) To be honest though, I'll often have a larger knife (Like my Pacific Salt) clipped IWB, or my Military or Police model in my RFP with a smaller knife either clipped to my shirt pocket or watch pocket. I can, and have, EDC'd only a small knife but it doesn't feel right, somehow, not to have the ability to cut a 5-gallon bucket in half on demand. :p
I know what you mean. :) How are you liking that Dragonfly so far BTW? I've yet to pick up anything in V-TOKU 2.

Felt like carrying some overbuilt knives today. Full sized Lionspy and a BK24.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
With the apparent design of the upcoming Chief, we might have reasonable hopes of a Salt version in LC! Drool! Too early to lobby Sal?!

The Santoku gets used daily, morning and night. An old friend.
The Chef is a new friend and a steadfast one.
The Chef likes to come out for dinner... likes to slice garlic. mostly sees light duty and stands around supervising!

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
:D Fear not. The Maxamet Native was an extra one I had picked up cheap to resell, and I just so happened to be carrying only my Boye Cobalt Folder tonight. Though honestly it did feel weird to not be carrying any Spyderco knives for a few hours.
In all seriousness though, I have been trying to thin down my collection a bit lately. I'm planning on selling off a few of the ones I don't use much, hopefully freeing up some funds to buy some new ones.
So you see, I'm perfectly normal after all. :D

I was thinking the same thing, with the work they did on the Native Salt. Going to be interesting to see what Chief variations come out in general.
