Dang SG, that's definitely not user error knowing how many scale and clip swaps you've done over the years. Was it an instant snap, or did you really have to crank on it for that to happen?

I think this happened to someone else on here as well, LiquidCobra or maybe RadioActiveSpyder?

From what I remember, they used an etching solution to dissolve the steel screw out of the titanium handle. I'll try to find the post now.

I bought it used and disassembled it to clean it (it was pretty dirty) . Upon reassembly, I sheared the screw. Out of 100s of spyderco screws I've turned, one has gotta shear sometime. I'm not really worried about it.

I remember reading about that actually. Looks like I'm in good company with those 2 :)

Took 45 minutes of searching but I found it tucked away on page 9 of the "Watu...AKA Lil Chokwe" thread. :nerd I actually think there was another more elaborate post about it too but this took long enough to find in itself.

The Watu is surprisingly not much smaller than the Chokwe. I don’t have my Watu yet so I can’t take a comparison pic myself, but here’s one off of KeithKevinKen’s IG page with his two:

I honestly thought it’d be a bit smaller than that. I’m really excited about it, and do actually carry my Chokwe on a regular basis still. I even managed to pull one down off eBay a day ago that had a busted clip screw in it - same exact thing happened to mine in the Ti lock-side scale and I simply dissolved the steel screw out with ferric chloride (which doesn’t affect Ti). Cheers, Radioactive

You can easily find it in shops of electronic components. It is generally used to etch printed circuit boards.

I would just disassemble the knife, flip the scale over, lay it on a piece of wood with a hole under the broken screw, and use a 1/16” drill bit in my press. If the bit binds it will just unscrew the stub. If you drill through the screw, I’d use another slightly larger wood screw to accomplish the same.
