Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Toughness has been solid for my use at work, no complaints there. The factory edge on my Shaman took a couple rolls, but after sharpening it and leaving it at a 600 grit finish it's been a stud in that aspect.Woodpuppy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 4:07 pmYou’re one of the members here who really do put your knives through the wringer. I wouldn’t expect Cruwear to measure up to the high edge retention / wear resistant steels, but part of what I love is the compromise space it occupies. What are your impressions of toughness? Does it deal with use that would chip the wear resistant steels? Or do you find it doesn’t really excel there either? I need more time with my Z-wear shaman, but so far *I think* my Cruwear Millie beats it. Maybe it’s just blade geometry.
I think I've just been spoiled by all these other high wear resistant tool steels the past couple years!! I sometimes forget not everybody has the opportunity to use their knives like I do, and I suppose it's more on the heavy side of edc use. Just feels so normal to me haha!
I'm actually removing the factory edge on that Delica right now, using my DMT Diasharp stone. Only the Coarse side, not Extra Coarse since I'd just like a little fresh steel and new scratch pattern. Cruwear is definitely an easy and user friendly steel to sharpen, can't take that away from it!

Thanks! They're just some smudges/residue...
So it goes.

It's interesting to watch all of our knife preferences change over the years on this forum. Are you liking that long wharncliffe for everyday use?
As someone with an affinity for wharncliffes, I really need to try out a Yojimbo/jumbo.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Been this one all week
with the wild 'maters, and hot peppers I picked today
I've seen where a few folks have said they thought the HAP40 in Spyderco's forlers is/was a little soft, but I gotta say - I have been nothing but impressed with it in the Cutlery Shoppe Delica; and it fits perfectly with "October Orange" too :-)
Thanks to some update, or lack of, I have been unable to view various members photos (Wartstein, vivi, SG89 (spydiegirl), Airlsee, aicolainen, Tkok83, plus a few more) for weeks now, and definitely miss seeing them.
If any of you were wondering why I haven't commented on anything you've posted - it's cause I can't see it :-(
u.w.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I love the Q-ball my arthritic thumb just doesn't like that lock. Great picture!
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Accidentally carried my Yojumbo to work instead of a Pacific Salt.
Oh well, it handled it fine.
Pork turned out great too. Tried a new seasoning blend, it's killer.

Thanks
Yeah, I have some difficulty manipulating the lock, as well. I feed a piece of paracord through the lock area, in front of the ceramic ball, and tie a knot on each side. Gives me something to grip when pulling back on the lock.
