Two first days of CC skiing this season. Yay, good times!
Very cool!

We brought our snow shoes up to the mountains last weekend but there wasn't enough snow on the ground to warrant them. We did find a few cross-country tracks off-trail in the deeper snow.

How would you compare cross-country skiing to snow-shoeing? We're thinking that cross country might be the next step for us.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

It doesn’t compare.
The speed, fun and energy savings you get from CC skies are worlds apart.

I have snow shoes, but I hardly ever use them. The one situation where it happens, and the reason I got them, is to ascend a mountain to ride my snowboard on the way down. And that’s only cause they’re more compact and doesn’t interfere with my “run” as much as having a pair of skies strapped to my backpack.
I would still use CC skies to get to the base of the mountain to save time and energy.

I would encourage you to try. Parents around here put skies on their kids as soon as they learn to walk, so it becomes second nature, but I’ve heard it can be a bit of a learning curve for those who start later in life. Just don’t give up, you will be rewarded greatly in the end.

The Lil Native or Chaparral thread got me thinking so I started the day with the Lil and ended with the Chap. Both great knives but if I could only keep one the Chaps thin blade stock give it the slight "edge" for my typical use.

Most of the day I carried my new brown/black Para 3 S35VN factory second. Then, I switched to my Burnt Orange/REX 45 Manix 2 for romping around the open space.

Awesome pic. Not sure what it is about the way you take your pictures but they often make me want the knife if it isn’t one I already have. Started with some of your pictures of your Native Chief and now I have two of them! 😂 It is a great knife by the way.

Anyway, now I’m looking at the GB2. LOL.

Thanks!

The scales are from Shepard CC https://shepard-custom-creations.myshop ... lil-native

I contacted him and asked if he had any brown micarta and he made me these. Looks like he only has a set of Python micarta available atm, but I'm sure if you want something specific he'll make a set for you.
