The blue G10 Sage 3 no longer eludes me! A special thanks for the heads up goes out to Filoso. Thank you Nacho!!!
Nice pickup! Does this complete the series for you? I just got one of these recently too but I still need to find that elusive Sage 4! ;)
I have them all except I guess now I need to pick up a Sage 5 LW with black FRN to have all the regular/S30V versions. I do have a mint green M4 S5LW but I'm not sure I want to include that
Nice, congrats! At least that last Sage 5 LW should be easy to come by and won’t be such a difficult hunt to track one down.

Today I had the CruWear Micarta PM2 and REC Lil Native.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Mail just showed up. I’ll be carrying this one for a while To test out SE k390

Really interested how sharpening will go for you. I am still shying away a bit from such hard steels in SE cause I am not sure how fast they'll wear out my CBN SM rods, and VG10 or LC are great in SE anyway in my experience...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I got it solely because I have vg10, h1 and lc200n SE blades. Sharpening shouldn’t be any different, as I don’t reprofile my SE blades.

It's "Fixed-blade Friday"!

I've been alternately carrying these three as my primary carry on my days off for the past month as I work on a post about neck knives/small fixed-blades.

My only SE is a K390 Police. I got a Sharpmaker at the same, specifically to sharpen that knife. My sharpening experience was very good. The Sharpmaker is now my preferred tool for sharpening serrations, and it does quite well on K390 with the standard rods.

Recently I got the diamond rods for the Sharpmaker. I found them to be VERY coarse... FAR too coarse... abusively coarse. They really leave a rough edge on the blade. The blade can be made sharp, but it's not the type of craftsmanship that I strive to achieve. The standard rods do such a nice job that I'll stick with them for now, and I don't even know if I'll use the diamond rods again.

But if you want some fancy steel, rest assured, you can use your Sharpmaker on K390.

Thanks!

I was of the opinion that I'd probably have to use my CBN rods on K390 SE in order to achieve results in a decent amount of time (even when "just" sharpening, not reprofiling).

And since one obviously can just use the corners of the rods on SE, I was afraid they'd wear out fast (due to the reduced surface of the corners compared to the flats)

But now your reply pushes me VERY close to getting an K390 Endura SE... after all an ffg Endura, regular blade shape (so not the wharnie) and with liners (so not an LC200N Pac Salt 2) is still kind of my dream EDC knife...and does not come in any other steel than K390.
Add that I really like tool steels and patina on blades, and my finger is already on the purchase-trigger... :smirk

I don't really subscribe to the sharpen/reprofile philosophy. On a plain edge, I put the angle where I want it, and I maintain that profile until I change my mind. Serrated edges are different in that you can't just go changing things willy-nilly. I figure that the boys and girls at Spyderco know a little more about serrated edges than I do, so I leave the angles as close as possible to when the knife left the factory. I don't do a 30/30 or 40/40 because once the edge is changed that far, it would be REALLY hard to get it back. Maybe a 30/30 would give good performance. After all, that's how Sal does it in the video.

Yeah, I agree that the Endura is somewhat of a Goldilocks knife. It's neither too big, nor too small.
