that looks so sick. i have to say though that i'd rather have the coated hawkbill on a red/black zome handle. still waiting for my 🐞 ladybug.

Thanks! I’m confident we’ll get a Ladybug Ladybug soon. Definitely before we get an all black Ladybug Hawkbill. (I don’t think we’ll ever get one in all black and regular production actually. :disappointed )

such a classy, no nonsense design. i really like the blade shape and grind and i like that the liners are a little proud of the scales. it's just a great looking knife. the patina and your choice of scales just make it that much better. i still don't know that i could get on board with m4 though. we'll see how 15v and k390 work out for me.

It is a great design. One of my favorites in hand. Definitely my favorite blade design. M4 to me is a little more resistant to staining (not rust) than K390 in my experience. K390 seems to patina fairly easily. If it helps you, I did force this patina. Had a few dark spots on it, I like a patina, I love this knife, so I said why not.

i've been more opposed to corrosion than h1, but i'm not necessarily a hater of a good patina. i'm going to give it a try, but i'm still nervous about m4. would you say it's more or less corrosion resistant than 1095?

Definitely more. In fact, I have been meaning to clean up my Esee AGK and rub it with some vasoline. It gets mild surface rust from just existing.

If you are more curious, Larrin did some testing and ranking.
https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/10/14/ ... e-testing/
I find those rankings interesting because I have had zero issues with Cruwear (non-stainless) and a little spot rusting with ZDP-189 (stainless). See his ranking on those two. I haven't had any patina show up on Cruwear or ZDP-189.

i stripped the coating on one of my izulas and forced a patina. i did have some corrosion form on it since... actual red rust. i was able to clean it up and haven't had issues since though. you can see the black spotting where some of it was around the izula etching. the patina was done with a soak in apple cider vinegar and then some mustard for the stripes. i would really like a similar look on a gb2 like yours with the burgundy/maroon micarta. :thinking

if m4 is more resistant to corrosion than 1095 from esee, maybe it wouldn't be as bad for me as i have always thought. i still hate the idea of rust or corrosion on an expensive gentleman's knife, but you've shown me that i'm just being silly because it looks great.
