When it matches the bike I pretty much have to carry it if I go for a ride. Although I guess any of the bhq exclusives would work as well.
Super cool
How do you ride that beast? Trails? Commute?
I'd love to try a fat bike someday. Is that an electric kit or DIY?
I just finished building it so I dont have a lot of miles under my belt. I live at the beach so I built it specifically for sand, and trails, and then to commute, and also just to not be stuck in traffic 6 months out of the year in this tourist town.
My first ride down on the beach was great though. If I could have my way I would ride a dirt bike to work on the beach but thats super illegal. And some of these new "e-bikes" on the market are awesome but theyre pretty much dirt bikes as well. (Like the sur ron/ segway bike). Theres no way you could get away with taking them on the beach, bike trails, or even commute in the bike lane with them without people eventually calling the cops. I built this to be more discreet and so that I could argue, (even in a court of law), that it is a bike. And I can ride a bike wherever, so long as Im not being too crazy. (Thats also not true, different places have different rules on even "regular" ebikes but my area seems to be fairly lax.)
A fat bike, even an electric fat bike, isnt exactly a good commuter on road/asphault. But most of my day to day stuff is all within about 5 miles of my house so I still have enough range. With that said a fat bike is awesome as soon as your off road.
Its a kit more or less. Motor, battery, and all the e-bike stuff came from luna cycle. Its all pretty much plug and play. The difficulty came from frame compatibility as far as mounting everything. Some frames are a perfect fit, some wont work at all, this one just barely works.
