A little disappointed in Microtech for making the color in the engravings so easy to remove. The blade looked like it need a little cleaning so I gave it a little buffing with some Flitz and it removed a lot of the lettering...

New Manix gets to know the mountains... :)
I remember you asking me about BD1N when I had posted my manix up, have you had experience with it before? If not, you’re in for quite a treat.

No, I haven´t! Had the Manix 2 LW before, but in BD1 (without "N"). The steel was ok, but I was not overwhelmed (liked VG10 over it).

Did not use my new Manix enough yet to really get a solid impression of the BD1N, but I have to say: Edge retention seems to be pretty good! I tested the ergos (and not intentionally the steel) of the knife by preparing a fire and whittling a lot of harder wood, thought it would certainly not cut paper cleanly any more after that, but it actually did... not "scientific" at all, but still a nice first impression! :)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I've been carrying my HH UKPK the past 3 days now and am easily remembering why this one has, and always will remain in the collection. It's so darn light weight and slim. One of my two knives with a wire clip, so that's nice to be able to switch that for a change as well. It's also nice to take something this light out of my pocket and still have a pretty substantial cutting edge to use.

Even though I LOVE the Manix, this knife is definitely the most comfortable knife ergonomically that I've ever held. I've held off on carrying it for months now because I've been trying to do all those tests with all the various steels and more heavy duty knives that I have. Glad I'm giving them a break for this guy this week :)

Wait till the sharpening. The edge that comes up is amazing. And the edge that comes up after it “appears” to be dull on a strop is also insane. I’m a big a fan of that steel. I wish it was in more models!

I'm with you. I have both the HH and the LW version. This model brings me back to the old school pocket knife days. Not the necessarily the design, but holding it brings back some nostalgia.

I think you would like the Caly 3.
