I hear ya man, this is getting ridiculous. This is 5 out of the past 6 mornings where there's been at least a dusting. Our plants and all the birds in the area don't know what to think! I actually had to get my snow brush out again for this morning.

Got this mama today... Been practicing drawing it from my pocketImage

It's been nearly two whole days since you posted this :) . What are your opinions so far? Is this a user for you, dedicated self defense tool, etc.?

I've likely already purchased my last knife for the year, but the Matriarch, especially your exact model, has tempted me ever since Rick (TkoK83Spy) started sharing his experience with his.
Ive opened 2 boxes with it since Monday lol. I got this for self defense since it's been said this knife was designed for "maximum damage with minimal skill". I still prefer plain edge knives for edc for my uses.

I'm pretty curious to know what you think of it as a self-defense tool for women now that you've got it in hand. I mean obviously you haven't had to use it for that yet (and hopefully never will!), but how easy is it to deploy? Is it unwieldy being so big? Do you like it over smaller models like the karambit, if you've tried one? How does it fit your hand? I have a folding karambit that I carry when I'm alone in the woods (we've had multiple mountain lion sitings very close to us in the last 2 years), but honestly I don't like it. It's awkward to deploy - it also has a wave - and I think I'd rather have a fixed blade karambit. But I've also considered this one.

I prefer this to a karambit as the matriarch is slimmer in pocket. But it's an endura handle so it's large. It's easy for me to deploy from front right pocket. I even put a deep carry clip on it. I got this more to keep stray dogs off me when I don't want to carry a gun. I didn't want to wait for the swick 5. I bought from unitedoutdoors on ebay with a best offer of 10% off MAP

New member here... been lurking for about two years though. :D

This forum is really amazing and I'm not sure why I didn't join sooner. I've been frequenting it several times a day for many months.

Hey thanks man!
I do miss the forum from time to time, I still lurk, but have laid off the internet forum action quite a bit in an effort to refocus my available time, and ever since witness protection program...

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Welcome to the forum!
Nice pic (I personally like it when I get an impression where and how forum members live by the background of their knife pics! :) ).. and nice knife! (Though I prefer it´s bigger brother, the Pac Salt... do you have that one too?)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Late reply, Julia... ;)

I was REALLY close to getting that Manix. But I guess I won´t pull the trigger.. :(

Only reason: In the last days I realized even more how much I really like SE in ffg, and only ONE of the Spydies I own at the moment offers that (one other is sabre hollow grind full SE, and one is sabre grind comboedge)
So I´ll try and get more ffg SE Spydies whenever possible, and the Manix does not come like that unfortunately..
Sure, SE rules out very hard super steels I guess in most cases, but I am fine with that.
I have high hopes for the Rock Jumper, as far as I know this model will (and really should) also come in SE! :)

/ Now what really is a pity though (Quoting JuPaul) "And you should absolutely get a g10 manix, and I will get an Endela! " (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60127&p=1410207&hil ... a#p1410207)

In would have loved to hear your thoughts on the Endela SE! :D

Thank you all for the warm welcomes - and I am glad you like the photo!

Wartstein, I will admit that I anticipated that you would like the photo, as I really like the ones you post as well. Judging by your posts I have read over time, I think we would get along quite well. :) I do not have a Pac Salt yet, but don't worry, it's on the "Spyderco Knives I Need" list. I actually currently only have two Spydercos (plus a sharpmaker), and I think you'll be happy to hear that my other one is a Chaparral LW.
