The Hap40 Stretch has been calling to me for the past year, since i have known that BBS had them NIB. I have been back and forth a bunch of times. I get so much use out of and really enjoy my Stretch 2. I know Wartstein loves his Stretch 1. I heard once or twice.. ;) :D. I bought one and... seriously though both are fantastic!

I had hesitated for a number of reasons-- 1.I thought the Stretch 2 handle didn't need to be any smaller and the original model might feel cramped, 2. my V-Toku 2 Stretch features Seki-wiggle (which while nitpicky is my primary complaint with any of my Spydies), 3. price plus shipping 4. I don't usually go for discontinued models etc.

Anyhow, boy am i glad i got it. Totally solid lock (no wiggle), the handle feels great. the blade is great. I'm excited for another BA laminated Japanese steel, the FRN color and feel is great (although Cambertree's Micarta scaled Hap40 Stretch always has me thinking about that option...) The Stretch 1 is about 10% lighter, which i find noticeable in hand. The balance point seems to be about the same. The longer blade and shorter handle of the 1 are noticeable, though not huge.

For now it is a toss up. I really like both the original and the "2" It seems unlikely i will pick a favorite. Honestly i think they are almost different enough to exist in the lineup concurrently. I hear that sales figures don't support that, but maybe when we have the Stretch XL, we could revert to the Stretch 1 pattern? Just a thought. I will be eager to see the Stretch XL design. I like the Chief a lot, but i like the edge shape of the Stretch maybe a little more than the more continuous sweep of the Chief's edge. I Chief-sized Stretch could be really cool.

Boy, I am also glad you got it and even more glad that you seem to really like it! :)
The Stretch 2 is great too, but there is something special about the very compact package with still a lot of edge of the "1"

And funny you should mention that you could imagine both the Stretch 1 and the Stretch 2 being still in Spydercos current production, cause they were different enough for that:
One of the very first threads I started here was about that very topic, cause I feel the same like you:

I'm sure I'm fine, just dealing with all the agricultural burning in my area, lots of smoke in the air.

My physician made me buy this weird contraption called a Rhino horn. Body temperature-water, a spoonful of salt, and pour half into each nostril at a weird angle looking like a dum-dum.
But hey, if it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid !

The only two Spyderco’s I have carried for over a year now is my Spydiechef and sometimes my stainless police. Spydiechef never leaves my pocket while the police will ride in my back pocket if I feel like I need it.
