I think that is partly a CQI thing. Some of the older models had smaller holes. Newer models all seem to have larger holes. My beloved "R" model is almost perfect but the one thing I would change is the opening hole. Same goes for the C54 Calypso.

I know... But to imagine Shaman plus Micarta: It just can't get any better, so I HAD to try and ask...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

I can live with the small hole, still functions fine, but it surprised me. Even the Police 3's hole feels small to me now since I usually go with a Police 4 or Manix XL.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 2:54 pmI think that is partly a CQI thing. The Squarehead has a huge opening hole I wonder if it is bigger than the MilitaryVivi wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 3:12 pmI can live with the small hole, still functions fine, but it surprised me. It is! I actually think the Squarehead has the largest opening hole of any Spydie to date, surprisingly enough.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 3:28 pmThe Squarehead has a huge opening hole I wonder if it is bigger than the Military

The Smock hole is also extremely small. Even with the chamfering, it's still a little difficult to get your thumb or middle finger in there...and I have relatively small hands. Thank god for that flipper!

I have one of these in VG10 now. Very nice knife. Great ergonomics...I like the handle a lot better than my Pacific Salt. Once I'm done messing with my Delica and Calypso I plan to give it some pocket time.

A Caribbean (PE Leaf).
Been in my pocket for two weeks.
I’m still marveling at how very fine it is.
I’m also marveling at how few in this thread are the declarations of carrying one.

I'm waiting on the LC200N Pacific Salt. I'm all about backlocks and cbbl, don't really buy other lock types these days. Looks like an exceptional design aside from that one hang up I've got.

Ending the work week with the Manix 2, it assisted with my latest project; dial is now easier to read on this smaller watch :spyder:
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
With work keeping me indoors today, I didn’t have these in my pocket much. They were there when I picked up some dessert with my wife, and I have to say they both carry well. The pacific goes with me most places, but the Brouwer is new for me. It has been excellent, and far better than I expected. The clip is new for the Brouwer, and I think it’s a match. I was going to leave the stock one since I like the Taichung clips, but this deep carry clip was begging to be put on.
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Neat, don't see many folks carrying the PE Salts. Edge retention isn't as bad as its made out to be IMO.
Probably going to be my last day with this guy for a while. Got a couple of new ones in the mail I want to mess around with. I plan to shoot a video review sometime soon. It's been fun giving it another shot.

Missed my Throwback Thursday post this week, but I'm still carrying these. It's Pinewood Derby Day for my little Webelo. Wish us luck.

Smock and Roadie. Loving the smock.
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I won’t try to move you away from backlocks/CBBLs. I like them, too. But, for your consideration, here’s a side-by-side-by-side:
Note that the ratio of working-edge to blade-length is greater on the Caribbean than the other two, yet the Caribbean’s overall length is less than the other two.
Note also that the handle on the Caribbean offers more lengthwise real-estate than the Manix2 XL (comfortable though the latter is even without using the choil) for biggish hands. And the Caribbean offers more heightwise real-estate than the Pac Salt, a marginal improvement for bigger hands.
Moreover, the Caribbean’s pocket-hoggishness is slightly less than the other two.
The Caribbean’s scales are decidedly grippier that either the CF or the FRN.
And, if at the cost of your favored locks, the Caribbean is far more easy to clean, what with its pillar construction, and not only nested but also flush liners.
