Feel like maybe I am doing it wrong because I read people saying they can close one without putting there fingers in the path of the blade.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have cut the top of my index finger twice now in the past week trying to one hand close my Pacific Salt and Salt 1!
Hope this helps (Lance once put video on his method), but my preferred way is:
1. Hold the knife on sabre grip, thumb on ramp / spine
2. Move thumb back to lock
3. Move index finger to Spydiehole
4. Press the lock
5. When lock releases, push down the blade using index finger at the hole, releasing thumb from lock
6. Move away the rest of the fingers, the knife is held by thumb & forefinger
7. Continue the rotation to closure

My favorite lockbacks (the method doesn’t work with thumbstuds, Spydiehole wins!)

Thanks for this.

It is how I close my Salt but it takes a lot of moving the hand about the knife and you have to pay attention.

The people I read doing it make it sound as your fingers are never in the way and you don’t have to reposition your hand. So much easier then a liner lock they say.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

Probably they do the flick down when releasing the lock with thumb, using index finger up very close to tang/kick to stop the blade, and after repositioning fingers, close it completely. I do that with the CS BS (no holes).

Or more extreme, can only be done on well broken in spring & pivot, press the release with index & flick it close, all other fingers at the side of handle. Something like closing Axis or CBBL. If memory serves me right, Vivi did that in one of his video.

This one has pushed everything thing else out of my pocket.

Such a cutter. Still not a fan of backlocks though. Feel like maybe I am doing it wrong because I read people saying they can close one without putting there fingers in the path of the blade.

Still very much like it.

Curious if you end up carrying it more than the Millies you love. I EDC'd a Millie for half a decade and had a Pacific Salt as my beater / summer knife. Over time it ended up replacing the Millie since it's lighter, rust proof, cheaper, and works better IWB.

As far as closing a lockback goes, here's a few methods:

I always use method #2 with Spydercos, and method #1 with my cold steel voyager that uses a thumb stud. Method #3 is how you can close them with your fingers out of the way, swinging the blade as effortlessly as any free swinging comp lock.

Carry more then a Millie?

Let’s not get to crazy. I like the SE blade a lot but I am Millie for life!

At the beach? Looks like coral rock.

Today I'm giving my S110V Military an unneeded break in favor of the Native 5 Maxamet.
