Iconic spydercos

#1

Post by spyder moist »

What spyderco models would you consider to be spyderco flagships? it could be a wonder from yester-year, a modern classic?.

As much as I would like, im never going to own every spydie model and varient. but would like own a diverse range.

I think the :spyder: FFG FRN delica vg-10 is one,
as so many people seem to own 1 or more, and I would say it's a top ten seller.

kind regards

I consider the Police a Spyderco flagship; I obviously consider also Delica and Endura, but I think that Police has really small differences from the first production made...

Probably the top 3 without any debate would be the Police, Military and Harpy.

Some of the newer models that I personally revere as iconic are the G-10 Ayoob C-60 model, The Catcherman and the Dyad. They just don't get much more Spyder than that

In the fixed blade category I would go with the original Temperance model>> and you could add it's folder cousin the C-54 Calypso as well.

But I'm sure the SE Police probably tops them all when the votes are counted

Very good point. I think even those who aren't knowledgeble about Spyderco have a deja vu feeling when they see a SS SE Police ;)

Seems as though the millie/para and the police models are getting the most votes,
what varient of each knife would you say sums up each model?

thanks

Is the Worker included on so few lists because it was too early in Spyderco's history for most forumites to recall? It was the first Spyderco, extremely strange in comparison with all the knives we'd previously known. As a Spyderco carrier for twenty-four years now, I recall how skeptical I was the first time I saw one. I thought it was a ridiculous design, wondering who would even consider having one. Needless to say, I've learned a lot since!

Delica/Endura are pretty iconic, particularly if you include the Salt models too.
The Manix always features highly in the 'what spyderco' conversations, particularly the backlock ones.

The UKPK is the most iconic EDC over here.

However, flagship implies something top-end, so I'd have to say Police & Military. I prefer the Military :)

Pretty good list though the Matriarch or Civilian may or may not fit on that list. Maybe not for numbers sold but they are pretty much well known and sell fast when available. Some non spyderco fans know of them and collect them. Like the police they are well known in the LE and Self Defense/weapon retention training crowd.

My list other than the above would include:

Worker
Police
Delica
Endura
Harpy
Military
Para1/Para2
Manix original and new version
Stretch
Caly/ jr./3/3.5/ Super blue version
Sage
Persian

I could easily add more.
