Your dream EDC...

#1

Post by Colin »

Ok, I really want a S30v Chicago (the first run) because I am a steel snob. However as I understand it, the S30v Chicagos had production quality issues so I am left with tracking one down and paying at least MSRP probably higher for one that might have an un-centered blade, burrs on the blade, chipped edge, etc.

Anyway, I want Spyderco to release a new Chicago, I'll call it the Speakeasy, using S30v steel blade, a bead blasted steel handle, skeleton liner lock, pillar construction, an extra large spyder-hole, medium jimping on the choi and medium jimping running from the top of the thumb ramp all the way down the spine (tapering finer and finer till smooth about halfway down the spine). I think it would be a classy, practical and beautiful knife.

Mine would probably along the lines of a Caly3 or 3.5 in titanium and S90V. Just saying!

There are aspects of the Para2 and Manix that I like, and I also like the sculpted and polished G10 and the dual blade grind of the Vallotton. I would put all of that together into one knife.

Gotta agree with you there. It'd be cool to have a san mai type of deal with H1 for the inner arch and VG-10 or SKD-11 cladding extending to the tip. This actually sounds like something Kershaw would do. Someone see if they're crazy enough to try this out.

My dream model would be a Khukuri with a compression lock, CTS B75P steel, and either a dark purple nishijin weave, or gray G-10.

Right now I'm not even thinking of anything else except this M390 millie. It just feels so right to me now and it opens so smoothly. Smoothest of my millies. I don't usually knifesturbate but I can't stop myself taking it out and just opening it a few times every time I sit down at the house. I always thought I could come up with an imaginary dream knife anytime someone asked me to but not now. I have been using it to open boxes and break them down and peeled a lot of cable while installing a CCTV system. The bevel is hazy now because I just touched up on brown rods and used a 14u strop to blend the micro bevel into the back bevel.

It would probably be a hybrid, something like a Junior or Manix 2 handle with a Yojimbo 2 blade, FFG but ground without any distal taper to preserve tip thickness and strength.

Well... If I HAD to pick one of those three, just based on visual appeal... I'd go for the one in the middle. All are very beautiful, though, Paul!

My choice for a Gentleman's edc would be a G10 Manbug with an Elmax blade that isn't so swept up at the tip. Alternately, a Carbon fiber Bug with an Elmax blade would be very interesting too.

I like that - but a thinner blade
