Tough decision

#1

Post by Lo/Rez »

I'm looking for a new EDC and after reading and watching videos, I still can't decide between the Sage 1, the Native5 or the Chaparral. I ended up ordering all 3 with the intent to see which fits my hand the best and sending the other 2 back. I hope I have the ability to make a choice once I've handled all 3.

Interesting solution. All three of them fit most hand just fine. Still quite different knives. Please keep us updated.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I predict you will like the Sage 1 the best. The ergos on the Sage series are superb. Not that the other two are slouches. I just finished ordering the Sage 4, it will complete the series for me.

I had a Sage 1 and I traded it for a Native 5 and I was happy I did. I like the Native 5 much more. Sage 1 was nice knife but just wasnt for me. Chaparral has been on my list but havent had gotten one yet. Keep us updated.

Send them back? Hahahahah that's like an alcoholic saying he'll order three drinks and keep the one he likes best.

Sounds like a test of willpower more than a search for a new EDC. Good luck.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

The Sage 1 will probably win overall, but as the others mentioned, it will likely be very difficult to send the other two back. ;)

It would be a very easy choice for me- I much prefer the linerlock. Also the Sage1 IMO is the best looking Spyderco model.

+1 on zhyla's post. I only have the Native5 and it is a hoot!

I own a Chaparral...love it! Perfect small(ish) knife.

I have held and fondled a Native5...just didn't do it for me.

Never held a Sage1, but it also doesn't have much draw for me.

So I guess I vote Chappy! :)

I went to pick up the mail today and guess what I found.

All three of these knives are very nice and I handled them back and forth trying to decide on which one.

Image

Each is appealing in it's own way but the Native5 was the first one out of the running which really surprised me. Perhaps if I had actually used these prior to making the final decision that wouldn't have been the outcome, but I was determined to keep only one.

I took a few pics with my current EDC for size comparison.

The 890 Torrent is my first quality folder and if you've never owned or tried one don't over look it due to the brand, it's actually a very nice knife that carries really well.

I should apologize for my pics and lighting. I threw an old fleece hunting jacket on my reloading bench and the CF light above it isn't the greatest.

The fit and finish on all these knives if fantastic and a credit to the company's. In the end I decided on the Sage 1 mainly due to the size making it the most comfortable for me. If Sal is willing to make an XL version of the Chaparral, I will be all over that one in a heart beat.

There were no bad choices there. I would have been forced to keep all three.

Interested to know why the Native 5 dropped out first?
