Suspect Paramilitary 2 purchase arrived today

#1

Post by sowelu924 »

Good evening everyone,

I was hoping that someone up here could help me to answer a question about a paramilitary 2 knife that I purchased and received in the mail today.

Everything about the knife looks "OK", but I've never seen a Spyderco blade without the markings on the blade. The version I purchased was supposed to be a digital camo version with DLC coated blade.

The blade itself has no Spyderco logo, no CPM S30V marking on the LHS, and there initials of the blade designers and "Golden Colorado USA Earth" are not on the RHS of the blade.

This seems to me to very wrong. Has anyone ever seen a Spyderco blade without its markings?

Thanks very much.

Pics?

Sounds like it could be a manufacturing defect unless China has upped their game and is cashing in on the Para 2 shortage.

If the knife is original from Spyderco and a manufacturing defect, would this be like a Unicorn?

Yep pics are needed. With all those discrepancies, it does sound suspicious. How durable is the DLC coating on yours? The real stuff is extremely hard.

There have been Spydercos in the past with no markings at all. I believe people referred to these as "sterile" Spydercos. Perhaps yours is a "sterile" Para 2?

Apparently I can't upload an image bigger than 100k. Still working on it... I did not test the finish, because I will probably return it. Thanks everyone for the responses, I'll get photos up here as soon as possible.

Wow, that's actually pretty cool. There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary except for the lack of markings.

If it's real it's certainly "weird". Everything is sterile including the clip. There also seems to be more space between the end of the clip and the end of the knife than normal. Haven't seen a fake compression lock yet though. Is it possibly a proto that somehow made it out?

Thank you everyone! I can't find anything wrong with it either save the missing markings... The clip does have the logo, my iPod may not be doing it justice... Don't they laser etch the blade markings? I have the black handle/satin finish model too, and everything looks identical up close. Just wish I could confirm the blade steel and finish without screwing anything up. Truth be told I'd rather have one with the correct markings...
I really, really appreciate your advice and experience here. Thank you all very much! I'll let you know what the seller says. I've contacted him, but haven't heard back yet.
Thanks again!
