Vallotton Sub-Hilt owners please look

Post by Evil D »

Hey folks, be and Bladekeeper were discussing this in another thread, so I was curious if I could get an all hands on deck opinion on something. If you own one, pull it out and see if yours looks like this pic does, and vote accordingly.

No, mine is flush on both sides. I had this picture laying around, its not the correct angle but you can see that they are flush.

Mine is like IG-88's. To the naked eye I would never had noticed this. I had to look under a jeweler's loupe to get a look at it.

David - is this bothering you or is it simple curiousity?

Mine if flush on both sides as well. While my thumbnail gets caught slightly while running it across the one side, it appears flush and looks similar to IG-88.

I guess even factory made knives still need people to get the fit and finish right.
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Mine isn't quite as pronounced D as yours but as you know it's there , has it gotten wider with useage and time ?.
If not then id say it was incorporated at some stage into the design be interesting to see the dates.
Ive just brought mine but that doesn't mean it is a recently produced one ill look and see.

Always thought that mine was unique. I don't know when mine was produced, the box says EL but I got no clue what it means.

First of all welcome!!

No problem to ask, there are no stupid questions just stipud answers :) The first letter in the code is the month its produced (Jan = A, Feb = B, March = C...) The second letter is the year, count begun in 2001 (2001 = A, 2002 = B, 2003 = C...)

So EL stands for E = May and L = 2012, production date May 2012 :)

When its daytime ill check my dates can't get to it now without waking the house up but you know what I love this knife its one of those things that grows and grows.
What I particularly like is that I didn't like it in the first place a paradox I know but it is sublime from its looks to the function .
The blade deploys like a scud missile now and all that's left to do is give it to somebody who is far more gifted with sharpening my skills aren't up to it without scaring Valerie v ;) .

Her birthday was oct 2012 so its not a early production thing it really doesn't bother me but it would be nice to know.
Please say I'm not the only one to name their knives and like all cars a beautiful knife is always a lady.
Some are men but their the ugly ones. :D

Mine's an EL and no it's not flush either. I can't feel it but it's enough to catch the dead skin off my thumb.
...I have no knives I keep in a safe but there are one or two that don't leave the house...

I wouldn't say it bothers me, but of course I do wish it was flush. We were just discussing it in another thread so I got curious to see how many are like this.

Mine is an EK & it is probably a bit better done than the one IG-88 showed in the photo.

Nope mine's a LK, so 12/11? Looks like I may have a very early production version. Hopefully this is a sign that current production doesn't have this issue.

D mines LK too got the workings mixed up I find here in the uk our stock hangs about longer I've just brought it but its the same date as yours.
My bad an aside I brought a delica Santa Fe turquoise mop last year it came damaged when I spoke to the company I got it from , he stated they had it new in box for eight years :O .
There was no more so it went back for credit I just wish they did some more models in the Santa Fe line up I love stone inlays they can work great sometimes.
But I'm going OT.

I have an EL also and it is not flush, but it is barely noticeable. This is the second one I have, the first one I sent back to the retailer because it had a bunch of scratches on the bolsters around the pivot hole; this is one of my favorite Spyderco knives in my collection and in their line up. I can't remember where I saw it, but there is an auto version of this, the mechanism is actuated by sliding one of the bolsters up, which I thought it was super cool.
