"must-have" Spydercos for 2013...?

#1

Post by Prospero »

The 2013 SB Caly 3 sprint seems to be a resounding success for Spyderco based on how fast it's been selling out everywhere. What other models do you think will be homeruns for Spyderco this year, and what do you personally have your eye on?

I think the new Domino will be another big success for Spyderco. I have my eye on that one, plus the Millie sprint in Cruwear and several of the SB FRN sprints. Oh yeah, I want the new Native 5 sprint in CF and 110V, too.

I'm going to be VERY poor this year!!! :D

Ha, seems like the non-stainless folders have a huge following and do very well. For many these will be "must-haves," not my bag, but to each his own. The Domino is an absolute slam dunk, and there will be out of stock complaints on these forums the likes of which we haven't seen since the Yojimbo 2. It didn't call to me like it did to many, but it's a cool design, and I might snag it sometime in the future.

I personally can't wait for the XL Manix exclusive, my favorite spyderco to date. If I only buy one knife this year, It'll be the XL in CF. I'm also looking forward to a the Lava sprint to broaden my horizons to smaller knives. Always liked the looks of that design. If the Forum Native makes an appearance, I'll jump on that one as well. As you said, an expensive year looming, but an exciting one for the community. And remember, we've only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to sprints this year.

Manix 2 XL S90V and Ti Para2 seem to be the most interesting to me.

2013 will be a Super Year for Spyders: Especially with Sprint Runs

#5

Post by JD Spydo »

There are 3 upcoming Spyderco Sprint Runs that I absolutely won't do without. Even if it means I'll be picking up aluminum cans for 40 hours a week for the next 30 weeks  :D

The new C-54 Calypso, the upcoming C-44 big Dyad and the new revamped Lum fixed blade. Those are 3 Sprints that I will get no matter what I have to do to get them ( within reason of course :D )

When I heard that they had a prototype of the big C-44 Dyad at the Shot Show it truly was a dream and a fantasy come true. I was elated beyond the C-60 G-10 Ayoob Sprint. It truly has done my heart good to see many of my personal "JD's TOP 10" favorite blades are going to be reintroduced in Sprint Runs  :spyder: :)

I was just telling a good knife pal of mine over the phone this evening that 2013 might be one of Spyderco's best knife years since 2003. I just wish we could get them to do some Sprints of special Spyderedged models like the C-60 Ayoob G-10, The Dodo, The XHP Military and even the new C-54 with teeth. I won't shut up until we see them. Well it seemed to work on the Dyad and a couple of other great models :D
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

I'm most excited about the Lum Tanto FB! I've been on the hunt for one of those for a long time.

CF S90V Yojimbo 2 is the one I am saving up for. Thought I wanted the Caly3 SB but then some things came up and I'm having to put that on hold. Maybe if funds permit I'll pick one up on secondary, but so far just the Yo2 CF S90V is a must have.

After having used the Caly 3 SB for a while now, I'm looking forward to some more Super Blue. The Domino looks like a hit.

Of course some SB FRN sprints, the CF Manix XL, that CF Native and the H1 fixed blade or an Enuff in H1! Not to mention that long pre-ordered green Para2 sprint ;)
2012 was quite exciting but 2013 seems to top it right at the beginning!

#1 priority is a Cruwear millie or two.
next, all mules.
Then whatever I can afford that catches my eye. So far the Super Blue models all sound very nice. If / as anything comes up in S110V or Carpenter B75 I'll re-prioritize.

These sprint runs are pretty much guaranteed to sell out pretty quickly and barring some strange event will continue to keep the market talking Spyderco in between heavy hitters like the recent Southard that has gone over very well with us knife knut types and some of the upcoming releases which look good. Man those Southard flippers are nice!

Domino, but I think that will be exceedingly difficult to find for a long time. And, frankly, I'd be surprised if we see it in 2013. I'd like an Endura in Super-Blue. Also, I'm very anxious to learn what Para2s will be out this year as I'd almost certainly buy any handle/steel combo that comes out.

For me it's just the Goddard and the Domino, until they pull the next surprise lot out of the bag at the Netherlands meeting. I'll probably get the new Street Bowie, don't know if that's considered a 2013 or not. Still waiting on the Foundry as well. I already have the Calypso.
