Spyderco knife for lefthander ...

#1

Post by crowfoot »

I want to buy a Spyderco knife for my wife. She is lefthander.

Opening left hand is ok but she would like

knife with serrated blade from right side.

Her tip is Rescue Orange Zytel Handle serrated edge.

I saw Spydie knives with serrated blade only from left side.

Please give me advice.Thanks.

hi crowfoot, my left-handed wife has the same problem getting a left-handed spydie where she wanted to have it small, clip on the left side and left-hand openning and closing. i found the only one which fits the requirements is the great wegner mouse.

I don't recall seeing one with serrations on the right side though.

Hi,
Sad to say, the mouse does not come with SE.
If you want PE the native also is a great lefthander.

The FRN Endura and Delica are also very "lefty-friendly", as is the (Massad) Ayoob folder, and all can be had in a serrated-edge.

You can also check the Native. The clip can be changed.

Any of the FRN handles can be rigged for left.

I am carrying a Native and Merlin for left right now, gave my friend the delica I used for 3yrs.... he now has had 2 weeks for it to grow on him.

A warm <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>welcome to you crowfoot.

Another excellent knife for left handers is the FRN Caplypso Jr. in SE. No right edge serrations, though. You can see it at eknifeworks.com. Price is $24.99 USD.

Good luck in your search.

one thing to consider is that, IMHO, I feel that serrations areput on the wrong side for a rightie.

With my Native in CE, I can slice low, and have the material glide over the knife, due to the grind. if I use it in right hand, then the knife is driven into the material...

Howdy Crowfoot! Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Land! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Any FRN Spyder can be reversed for right or left. What size does she want? I would recommend the Endura for large (3.5 in.), Delica for medium (3.0 in.), and the Dragonfly for small (around 2 in.).

Good luck! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

The Meerkat has a lefty-capable clip if you have a Torx T6 driver. And the reverse-S serrated edge option is great for cutting boxes and opening packages.

Hello Crowfoot:
I just took a look at my old Mariner SS left-hander...the serrations were put on the right side of the blade in true left-hand friendly fashion. The handle is steel, though, not FRN like your wife's Rescue, but the blade shape is the same type of sheepsfoot. Clip is on the left side only.
The old stock # is C02SL

curved blade=good

Hello Spydernuts,

Thanks for all your tips.
I´m not expert as you but we were thinking so:
The orange Rescue Jr. have round tip of blade and in my opinion this thing do knife for my wife more safely.
She don´t need knife for shoot only something to cut during day.
How is ideal size of blade for women ? I think lenght blade (orange Rescue Jr.) 3 1/8 79mm is ok.

What size hand does your wife have? I have rather sizable mitts, so the Endura or like knives fit great. For a female, or someone with smaller hands, the Rescue Jr. should work great.

However, if the Jr. is too small, you can always move up to the big Rescue.

Sword and Shield:

Question about size hand is very interesting.
I have Endura too and I don´t want to take the line scale up lenght of blade.
In my opinion is lenght blade big Rescue too many for woman to EDC (blue Mariner).
Lenhgt 5-8 cm is for woman´s hand acceptable.
