So what's on your must have list from the 2013 catalog?

Here is mine:

Chaparral Titanium, i love the facets of the handle.

Friction folder, the handle is beautiful, i think this one will be a winner, if it does't sell well, they should definitely keep making scales like this on other knives.

Pingo slipit: the only slipits i own are the bug, grasshopper etc. I am not a fan of them but i like the looks of this knife. It is like a mini Anso with a better handle IMO.

Pygmy warrior: This thing is just bada$$, i have to have one to go with my Warrior.

The Autonomy: I have to keep my restricted collection complete plus i want to see what makes ths the "Most Innovative American Design" winner.

Also I want the new beads to go with my other :spyder: knick-knacks.

I think offering the whale rescue is cool but realistically I have absolutely no use for it. There are not too many whales in Lake Michigan the last time i checked :p . I think that for Spyderco to make this knife in the first place is awesome. Sal and company keep supporting lots of groups, military as well as conservation as in this case with specialized knives that are probably not profitable at all. A big kudos to you for all of that. Now we just need a rescue fixed blade like the jumpmaster in orange or yellow for the fire dept. :D

Want's, NEEDs and Gotta Have lists

Post by JD Spydo »

First and foremost at the top of my "GOTTA HAVE" list is the "Southfork". Also I just determined yesterday that I NEED >> yes I said NEED a new PE & SE G-10 Police models>> before the SE version goes extinct. Been putting that one off for some time so I'll be pulling the trigger on at least the Spyderedged G-10 Police model.

Next I'll probably be getting all 3 of those new ENUFF models> i.e. the sheepsfoot serrated and the 2 plain edged versions.

From that point on I'll probably just be on the lookout for Sprint models that I feel I NEED the most. NEED as in necessity :D

Hopefully some of my fantasies will come through like a Spyderedged C-60 Ayoob and a full Spyderedged Catcherman.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

Goddard sprint, super blue Caly 3, Equilibrium looks sweet, but I'm betting it will cost more than I am willing to pay for a little knife with a SS handle.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Well the Southard tops my list...already ordered, just waiting for it to arrive.

Another must have is the Super Blue Caly 3 since unfortunately I missed out on the Super Blue Caly 3.5 and can't find one anywhere now :(

Loving the look of the friction folder too and I really want to give these Enuff models a shot.

My wallet just ran for the hills! :D

Nothing really must have. :o
Friction folder looks very interesting. Most likely I will buy Calypso, possibly Goddard and Lum Tanto fixed blade, all depends on the color of the handle and price. I will decide after I see the pictures. Still waiting for green para and a forum knife. Also counting on couple knives, which like every year will come will come unannounced.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Looks like another lean year for me. Nothing that really excites me, but I'll probably wind up getting a Rescue 3, Calypso Sprint, Goddard Sprint, and Autonomy.

From the catalog, my must haves are:
Equilibrium (have to keep my Schempp collection going)
Nilakka
Friction folder (though I bet the price will be sky high)
Ulize
Pingo
Pygmy Warrior
Street Bowie

As far as sprints, the must haves are:
Lum Tanto FB
Calypso
Goddard
Hopefully some surprises too?
(and the forum knife!)

Already have the Southard, Starmate, Szabo, Tuff, Chaparral 2, or else they'd be on the must have list too.

Should be a fun year.

Goddard Sprint for me. The Equilibrium I'll wait on - until they come out with some other handle material than SS. I'm also waiting on the Super Blue Stretch (not in the catalog) and the rumored Caly Jr. sprint (also not in the catalog).

+1! I DO have the 3.5 but it needs a little brother.

Despite the gray G10, the Caly 3 SB will be my primary purchase this year. I love my 3.5 version, but have never been a huge fan of the gray. If funds allow, a CF Chaparral with XHP would be nice.

Goddard (though I really really wish that it was micarta not frn. I mean it was once, why not again)...I like the friction folder but I think that the hole cut out is going to be SUPER uncomfortable as a lefty. I wanted a Street Bowie....but I'm not sure. Thought that the military asked for no hole in the blade? I would get one if there was no hole in the blade. The Caly 3 for sure...love Super Blue. the Lum Tanto....maybe.
Nothing else really grabbing me.

I guess I am fortunate that the catalog doesn't have so many new models that my head starts to spin (and my wallet cry). Currently I am planning to get:

Calypso
Caly 3 Superblue
Rescue 3
Matriarch 2 Emerson Opener
Autonomy

Curiously considering:
Ulize - Beautiful recurve version of the Police 3 I already love.
Junior - I know it's not new, but it keeps catching my eye.
Goddard - looks very strange in PE, but I like it!

Ooops, just posted this on the catalog thread - more appropriate here:
Friction folder - cool and new type of knife
Equilbrium - more utilitarian design than Balance IMHO
Enuff leaf - gotta love a short FB to add to the collection
Calypso brown - big fan of the older style blade shape
Goddard ltwt - streamlined and nice subtle mod to the spine (at least looks like to me)

An Autonomy tops the list, followed by the Black Manix.
