Christmas knife Purchase, which one?

#1

Post by swampfoxoutdoors »

I have decided that I want a new spyderco for Christmas. My wife and I have decided on a $200.00 limit for each other and I am wanting to get a new lone wolff barrel for my 10mm. so that leaves me with around 100 bucks or so for the knife.

Now to the hard part I am torn between a few different models.
Here is my list.

Spyderco Police 3 G-10
Spyderco Para Military 2 All Black
Spyderco Ulize

I will over the years buy all of these models but the way spyderco discontinues stuff which ones do y'all think will be the first to go or hardest to find in the months and years to come? My guess is the Ulize will not be around for long. The ulize is kinda at the top of my list. But here is a bit of a twist. All of the other spyderco knives I have are all lock backs or slip joints so the Para Military 2 will be a new fun locking system to play with.

What is yalls suggestions?

The Para 2 is simply awesome and would be my choice. They are very hard to find right now though, no one seems to know why... The Ulize is brand new so will be around for at least a couple years I would think. The Police 3 is not going anywhere.

yes I have heard that the para 2 is hard to find but I have looked and found a few from store I have bought from before.

And like you said I don't think the police is going anywhere.

where do yall usually buy your knives from?

I have used cutlery shop and knives HQ. knives HQ being the more expensive of the 2, I have also bought from local dealers here in north east Georgia.

That's a tough choice. I'm gonna say Police because I'm looking for one too!

Ulize.

We're all knife knuts...that thing is just gorgeous and ALWAYS ends up a conversation piece. No argument intended towards Ulrich Henicke's design, I am always reminded of Walter Brend's recurve.

I love my Police and the Para 2 with it's comp lock is very smooth, but I would have to argue for the Ulize!

I already have a Para2 so I'm considering putting a Gayle Bradley on my Christmas wish list.

well I have a ulize on the way! My wife was in one of her friends wedding this weekend and I told her I wasn't going. She pleaded with me for a few hours and I kept saying no until she said I will order you that knife you wanted and It will not count as a Christmas gift. So needless to say I drove to the wedding with a smile on my face! It should be here some time this week.

Ulize, hands down. The G-10 FFG police would be sweet, don't get me wrong. But it and the Para2 will likely be around for a long time, and the Ulize is just too unique to pass up if you have the opportunity.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Ulize. The pictures I saw on Amazon I have seen do not do it justice (i.e. vs the YouTube footage I have seen).

I guess that's one way to negotiate with ones spouse.

I would also vote for the Ulize but now that you have one on the way, I will say Congratz.

Well I got my Ulize in and let me tell yall it is bad to the bone except for one thing its broken. : (

The liner on the left side toward the blade if you are looking at it from the back/locking mechanism side has a crack in the steel. If I can take a pic of it I will.
