Does anyone have info as to the approximate release date of this knife?
This year 2012?
Also, will the scales on the regular production model be Titanium, Bio-Blu, or?

I've been wondering about this.

As far as I can remember, the Bio-Blu was made specifically for the Carpenter employees. I think I heard there were approximately 3,000 employees. (That's a lot of limited release knives!)

They are supposed to be made entirely out of Carpenter products, which I don't believe they make any titanium.

IMO if the Foundry came out with titanuim scales it would be a real winner. I'm not a big fan of stainless steel scales

The Foundry had a special steel on the scales called Bio-Blue, which is a cobalt alloy used in jewelry (among other things). It is supposed to be impervious to scratches during normal use. It also has a very high luster and, as Sal said, a very high price...

At Blade 2012 I asked the the people in the Carpenter booth about this knife. They were all mum on the topic, even when I pointed to a large photograph of the knife that was hanging in their booth and asked, "Are you sure you know nothing?" They still said, "No." :rolleyes:

There are supposed to be two versions, one with the Bio-Blue that is going straight to Carpenter employees and one without.

1. It is on the schedule to be produced.
2. They will all be made in Golden.
3. If Bio Blue isn't used for regular production (still in question), I believe Eric planned G-10 with the Carpenter logo machined into the scale.

That sort of begs the issue...

Since this is a liner-less RIL design, how would it be implemented in G-10? I assume they would have to put at least one liner in place for the lock. But at this point, why not just make it out of titanium? It would cut down on re-tooling costs, but would not allow production costs to drop substantially (titanium can't be all that much cheaper than bio-blue, although bio-blue must be a complete bear to machine...)

Hmmmm. Sign me up for one, in any event!

Looking forward to this. Carpenter is a great outfit, and i have learned a ton about different steels from them (as I'm sure others here have). Their info (mostly available in PDF form online) on various classes and varieties of steels is awesome.

I was thinking that one of the primary proposed uses for BioBlue was as a new alloy for replacement joints, pacemaker frames, surgical pins/plates, etc. Surely if it is pretty as well, that would be good for jewelry as well.
