As Spyderco described how to open a knife properly, all other ways to open it could be considered as "misuse" or "abuse" and will void the warranty. Image

I'm definately a flicker. Unless I'm around folks that are nervious about knives. Then I'll either do a slow thumb open or a two hand open.

Of course, there are Spydies that are just hard to open one handed, like the Kiwi 3.

"Standard;" I like to feel the lock engage, as an extra measure of confidence. That being said, I practiced plenty of kinetic openings with my Guntings, and that method, which the poll did not mention, works reliably for me to have confidence in it.

I would be very interested on sals take on wether flicking the blade open with an index finger is abuse or wear I can see the spyderdrop exerting more force on the lock through simple laws of physics but can't see why the speed of deployment would cause extra wear.
Anybody own a rat 1 ? Put a minimal amount of effort on the thumb stud and open it shoots out quicker than a rat up a drainpipe and I'm sure this was part of the design , wether the lock has been built to accommodate this idk .
But I would be interested in somebody who knows commenting.

With an attitude.

Actually you can get more power flicking open with the middle finger.
Especially if you are used to flicking this one up often. It's all
about repetition. You've got to have a good grip though or you'll
flick it into another room.

No flicking for me - draws unnecessary attention and is immature behavior (my opinion). I just use the hole how it was made to be used. Spyderdrop sometimes (when NKP's aren't looking). Too many freaks in the world for us to be scaring.

-best wishes, Jazz.

Old fashioned Spyderhole

#32

Post by JD Spydo »

I voted for and use the Spyderhole the majority of the time and do find that the Spyderhole is truly a great innovation that is time tested and to me is extremely reliable.

But hold on a minute because I do have some tricks up my sleeve as well. I do have a couple of folders and one is a Hawkbill ( who would have guessed that) that I have done some work on the pivot pin to where I can open it with gravity force. Also my SE Ayoob model will open with force as well.

But most of the time I find that the Spyderhole more than suffices to get a folder ready for action. If I need something very quick at hand>> well I just go with one of my fixed blades.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

Agree with not doing fancy little tricks with a knife out in public. I generally
don't pull one out around people. Just a simple slow thumb open works then.

The best way for me.....Very carefully. I have about 10 knives, fixed, folding and the Assist. Don't like opening the folding fast or snapping them.
