Spyderco Q 046 on blade?

#1

Post by Ninja »

What does the 046 on the blade mean? It's to the right of the spyder hole but what does it mean?

I'm guessing it's a collector's club number...

So was this a good find? Better than one without the number?

In my opinion it's no better than one without a number unless you had a set.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

A collectors club number on any model means it's an early example of that model. Beyond that, whether it increases, decreases, or has no effect on value depends on the buyer. Where recent models are concerned, there seem to be more people who feel the numbers disfigure a blade than those who like them, but on older models like the Q it probably makes little or no difference.

I'm neutral on it. I won't pay more for a CC#, but I don't necessarily discount it either. ONe dealer told me they sell quite well to customers outside the U.S. U.S. customers aren't swayed by the CC#.

i wouldn't pay more for it either, but i do think the novelty is kind of neat. If given the choice i would take one with the numbers over no numbers.

some of the numbered Qs were not CC# either. I know the blade magazine and Wilderness Mountain outfitters were numbered differently.

Very true Chris but, FWIW, the particular knife in question was a :spyder: Q which being auctioned on eBay at the time this thread started. IMHO, what added to collector interest in it was probably not so much the Collectors Club number, as the fact that it was one of the very early C35's which lacked the SPYDERCO markings on the handle making them, in effect, a variant or at least a sub-variant.
