Getting old isn’t such a bad thing after all…
Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday with my wife and family. (We'll keep the age thing under wraps because, well, age is just a number anyway, right?). After enjoying a fine meal at one of my favorite local restaurants, my beloved bride surprised me with one of her legendary coffee cakes--complete with a Spyderco Bug on top (see below).
Before I started to open my gifts, my wife handed me a box and said with a sly grin, “This came in the mail today for you. Looks like it’s from Spyderco?” I knew in an instant what it was; This was my prize package from the National Knife Day drawing (Aug. 24th). Talk about perfect timing! I opened the box to find a black-on-black combo-edged Tenacious, a Beanie, and a pewter Bug lanyard. WOW! I would like to extend a very special thanks to Sal and the Spyderco Crew for making my birthday a very special day indeed. Thanks, guys.
My final gift came in a box that appeared to be very reminiscent of a Spyderco knife box. I slowly shook the box from side to side and said, “Leafstorm?” My wife grinned and said, “Nope. Not even close.” I opened the box slowly and out came…
THE TECHNO!!!
<a href="http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... HNO081.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... HNO081.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Talk about an awesome little blade! My first thought was, "This is a BEAST of a little knife." Talk about a stout blade. :) After opening/closing it for over an hour, I discovered that the Techno perfectly meets my criteria for a discreet everyday "office" folder. The fit and finish is perfect on this knife. I seriously couldn't find a thing wrong with it. My favorite feature would have to be the stone-washed finish on the handle and blade. I've always been kind of a "mirror polish" kind of guy, but after seeing the Techno up close, I think I'll change my tune.
Here is the awesome "Spyderco" coffee cake my wife made for me:

My goodies from Spyderco. (Sorry for the quality--or lack thereof :o ). Thanks again, Spyderco!:

Let me just say that I am humbled to be in the fellowship of such a great group of people here. Thank you all for your very kind thoughts. :) You guys and gals are simply the best!
Thanks again, everyone!
All the best,
Michael
It is DELICIOUS! In fact, it was so good that I "had" to have a second piece last night.DeathBySnooSnoo wrote:Happy birthday! That is a fine gift you got there...sadly I don't think that there are any coming for my bday in a couple days, so I'll live vicariously through you!
Right on, Brother! Or, I could have my wife call your wife and give her a few hints...
That cake looks good...
Heh heh! She's a keeper indeed, Tony. I always remind her that she got the "short end of the stick" by marrying me. She'll just laugh and say, "Oh, I know."tonydahose wrote:she sounds like a keeper, i meant the mrs and the knives Happy birthday :)
Thanks, Ryan. I really like it too. The funny thing is, I wasn't sure that I'd get a chance to even hold one--let alone own one. When I opened the box, my jaw hit the floor!Orion's Belt wrote:Awesome score! The Techno is a winner for sure. It became my favorite knife almost instantly.
Thank you, kind Sir. It was a spectacular birthday indeed.Jazz wrote:Right on - happy birthday! :)

Amen, JD! I suppose I'll never know what I did right to deserve such a marvelous woman. I thank God for her each and every day. (On a side note, I think she'd be open to the Hawkbill. But it would have to be in SE! ).JD Spydo wrote:What a Precious Woman!! GOD custom built her for you Brother

Nice indeed, Mocean! I can't wait for my wife's birthday... Seems like I'll have to get her one of those new Pink Squeaks.Mocean wrote:Nice!
Thank you, Detdaddy. I will certainly pass the compliments on to my wife. :) I can't wait to try the Techno out here in the very near future.Detdaddy wrote:Awsome story. What an awsome wife. Enjoy the Techno. It has become one of my favorites. And I love the finish, too.
Thank you kind Sir for the birthday wishes. And I hope your wife will start getting you more Spydies too!bh49 wrote:Happy belated birthday.

Very well said, Sir. As the Old Book says, "An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels." Having found this very thing in my wife, I count myself to be extremely fortunate. (Besides, she has to put up with me all the time--so she has to be very special! :) ).sal wrote:Happy birthday Michael,

Hey thanks, Mr. Blonde and Doc Snubnose! :) Just earlier today I told my wife that I had made a post regarding her awesome birthday surprises for me. She just laughed and said, "I'll bet everyone on the forum thinks I'm nuts." I responded, "No, they actually think you're pretty awesome." :) Naturally, I tend to agree.
By the way, I carried the Techno for the first time today at work. Talk about a nifty little folder! Despite being a tad on the weighty side, I hardly noticed it clipped in the pocket of my dress pants. I think I just found my new EDC blade. :D
Take care, guys.
