I may get blasted for my response for this post but this is why I prefer to stick to p/e blades! And yes you should definitely get a sharpening system of your own, I have no experience with the Spyderco sharpmaker firshand so I cannot commeny on its level of competancy first hand, but have read many good reviews in the past. I personally own a Lansky with standard LS course grit(120), LS medium grit (280) - diamond stones, X course diamiond, medium diamond, fine diamond, LS Black Arkansas, LS 300, and lastly a sapphire stone hone (will hone a new blade to sharper
than factory condition. Also have a Work Sharp - Knife and Tool belt sharperning system.Good luck and choose wisely!!
